another idea was to exlude basic stuff like Acne, supreme etc to encourage good discussions, but of course a high price tag is no guarantee for smart costumers, take SLP for instance. i feel as though stuff like acne and apc are important for people who are beginning to appreciate higher tier clothes, obviously coming from mall brands

i cannot understand this hate for SLP. hedi is actually my favorite designer, margiela is the god for me, but i think dao and max of public school are the best out right now
anyway
SLP clothes are definitely priced ridiculously, but it makes sense
it's just these people, who come with all brands, really, that purchase for the label and do not know how to style the pieces at all

the little dictionary of fashion is good
the last documentary i watched was "the true cost"

i'm not near any of my books currently but if i get around to it, i'll post what i've read

a lot of what i know is from being and researching the hell out of a designer/company if i find just one collection i like
besides that, i'm currently attending a fashion school so there's that

hate from Slp comes from the fact there is no innovation in his design. he is reproducing an outdated look that he has created in the past. in a sense he is no better than fast fashion. he is smart though because SLP is milking the shit out of this and their revenue is shooting through the roof.
there's also the fact he is doing jack shit to remember ysl and why people liked it in the first place. so he is a disgrace etc.......
apparently the quality price ratio is a fucking joke as well....

read this it explains everything well:

That's just silly
The only reason the discussion on those threads here is usually awful is because the people who don't like the brands can't stand seeing the threads without mentioning how much they don't like the brand every time. And there it's not like everyone completely abandons everything slightly cheaper the second they get their first designer item. This season I have bought items from really every 'tier' of clothing and discussion here on all of those have helped me out.
The point is to make the entire place unappealing to the retards, 4chan kinda used to be like that but the stigma of this has worn down and now all types of people use this site and it has it's up and down sides.

The problem I have with Hedi is that it seems to me as there is nothing but "muh rockstar lifestyle" behind his designs, not much to think about. I like his silhouettes though and of course the actual quality is out of question (or at least the stuff I handled was) so I wouldn't say I hate him. Try to enlighten me ;)

yeah the rockstar motif is what i was alluding to
but, in defense of hedi, the entire rockstar shtick is a runway thing
it's how he styles his clothes, which i don't alwayd agree with, honestly.

most of the flack on him is the pricing and "muh yves legacy" (see: >>10452929 )
which is fair to a point, he is designing under a legendary house, and ysl was a god, but to completely stick to the script is bad for fashion. a lot of hedi's stuff is a nod to ysl, though not as blatant as raf's dior nods. (read the yahoo style interview of hedi, it's a good read)

fashion school is definitely a lot more intensive than people give it credit for. though it is isnt engineering, med, or law, all fields i was actually considering, i've never been under more stress but holy shit i love it
for the job part, yeah i do think i will, i chose to major in apparel production management, so i'm learning all aspects from design to production to business

if you like production, i'd recommend it, if you're more of a design person, go to any of the new york ones, or even look international like central saint martins or antwerp royal academy
fashion is really labor intensive, not only do you have to be detail orientated but you presentation must be excellent, which sounds a lot easier than it is

Yeah sure, I was considering design but at the same token I only have extremely rudementary skills as far as sewing/ actually making clothes goes. Im not 100% sure if that is the route I want to go. I know that I have always enjoyed selling things so maybe I would be more suited for something on that end of the fashion spectrum? Not working direct retail but more along the lines of distribution ect or dealing with clients and representing designers. Im just not sure what facet of the fashion monster I would fit into best. Im curious what you are doing in specific, how did you come to the conclusion you wanted to do what you are doing and do you ever question your decision? Thanks man, really appreciate your input.

yes there are tons of pieces that would be incredible to wear regardless of gender
the problem comes with the tailoring and the way the garment is cut for men and women is different but there are lots of pieces where it doesn;t matter too much, just have to get the measurements right ;^)

but at the same time a lot of those brands have pieces that push gender boundaries anyways (think the comme des garcon homme plus pleated skirts from 2009) so i mean theres plenty of "men's" clothing or "unisex" clothing that could fit what you're looking for

to the people talking about studying fashion;

what do if my interest is in actually making the clothes themselves? like actually putting them together. dior have this video posted of someone making a handbag, i mean that kind of making. i don't have a lot of interest in the designing part of the process nor do i have a lot of talent for it, i just love creating things.

you could either study product development and get taught design and construction (somewhat need to know both, though my school focuses on construction way more than design)
or
you could figure out a way to work for someone and overtime work your way up and become the lead sample maker

I think I might prefer Aganovich's line over anything, but I have to re-watch a bit yet. Lemaire spoke very sensibly to my classical instincts, so I liked that showing quite a bit as well. Scarf game so strong.

And a look from Celine that probably caught me as off guard as any.

FW by far

Simply more material to work with. One of my main reasons to watch runway is for little detailing, layering, playing with visibility, and other fun expressions, but when you're literally working with way less fabric, a smaller canvas, there are harder limits for what can and can't be said by a piece. I'm a romantic about clothing, so I resonate much more with large, expressive, roomy fits. Scaling down, even when evoking a similar range of emotions and textures and so forth is simply not as engaging.
