There is little to no moderation on /fa/. The regulars from the crappier boards are allowed to shitpost on free whim. /soc/ brought face rate threads. /b/ brought "is ____ effay?" shitposting. /fit/ brought the "high test" threads full of landwhales. /r9k/ brought the mental illnesses and red flag threads.

Not to mention, newfags flood to /fa/ because this is the "less scary" part of 4chan. Now we have Reddit and Facebook fags that don't know how generals work or don't know how to read the sticky. Underaged trips are also allowed to shitpost regularly.

Basically, /fa/ is only for memes that vaguely have to do with fashion, not actual fashion knowledge or discussion. It is useless to expect anything but cheap laughs from here.

Examples: the faggots who wear fedoras look like faggots. Blue jeans are much more accepted now than they were 30 or 40 years ago.

Because most here are le classy gentlemen

That said, this board has always had trouble maintaining a broad view of fashion. Usually there's one or two accepted looks (usually one rich and one poor one) here. This has been true for most of the board's life. For someone who's not going to pick up any Rick pieces (or Rick-lite pieces) it can get a little tedious when all other fashion discussion gets shut down.

Basic bitches always resort to the same responses when confronted with an actual luxury garment. The chloroforming effect of so much Rick and Raf has left the average poor/fa/g with a completely skewed concept of luxury, namely as something that's meant to be misrepresented. If it isn't distressed, torn up, bleached, badly cut, dull, and made with coarse materials, it's gaudy, gauche, tacky.

You literally need to de-program your mind from thinking like this. You've allowed yourself to connect with fashion purely through visual media. You look at fits on the internet, watch runway shows, flip through obscure magazines, and follow strangers on tumblr. You have very little contact with the world of clothing. You hardly ever visit any actual stores. You know nothing about tailoring. You don't try things on because all your shopping is done online. You pass judgment on things you'll never own because you assume they're for other people with an inferior sense of style. You believe money corrupts taste because so many people with money have no taste. You have no idea where the material your garments are made with comes from. You are ignorant about textiles and the importance of high quality wools, leathers, dyes and thread. You couldn't tell a Chinese sourced mink from an American one. You live in a bubble, rarely travelling more than 50 miles from your house. You debut your fits on college campuses and at stupid parties where nobody is paying the slightest attention. You fidget and squirm in your clothes because someone on the internet laughed at you. You're always uncomfortable because the clothes you wear are silly throwaway fashion pieces that are not designed with function in mind. You can't relax when dressed up because you're afraid of scuffing or staining whatever you're wearing.

Your fits are shit. You have no money and even less taste. You subscribe to a subculture that has no relevancy in the real world. You are a pleb, and you always will be.

/fa/ for fast discussion semi-related to fashion and mostly related to style - and the other forums are for slower and more considerate posts. there's a threshold (registration) for posting in other forums, so that generally limits participation to those who actually are into the stuff.

I'm gonna take a bite:
I see where you're coming from with this argument, but times have changed, and so has the concept of fashion. Sure, most new age garments that attempt to have a distressed style are much worse in quality than classics such as the suit, and that's because these new pieces are much harder to make. Fashion has become much more experimental in the past years, and it's arguable that it's become a contest of who can be the most special snowflake. But then again, you have to remember that some designers have succeeded in creating luxury pieces that might be a bit less "traditional" than what you would expect. There's a reason that Rick is praised here, and it's because he's pushing the limits of fashion while keeping to high quality standards. We've become a society which is much less unified than it was before because of freedom of expression continuing to encourage us to stray from the norm, which is why "menswear" might seem irrelevant to most people on effay today. But honestly, half of what you're saying is giving me a headache, I've never seen someone pull this much shit out of their artisan-made suit pockets. Honestly, what are you trying to prove? Menswear is the only acceptable form of fashion? Honestly, this board is like an escape from the endless circlejerk of "SUIT SUIT SUIT SUIT ALLEN EDMONDS SUIT SUIT SUIT".

Always makes me smile when people claim that suits are formal. What makes a suit formal is the tie and, at least to some extend, belt and shoes. Other than that a suit is completely normal piece of cloth. Hell, look at high fashion cat walks. Half the models of well known labels run around in suits. However, they combine suiting with striking shirts, casual shoes and other fancy things. The result is a bunch of outfits that is anything but formal and probably looks more casual than a business casual look.

Suits arent formal per se. Its the things you wear with the suit that makes it formal.

Try wearing a suit to an errand or out to the supermarket, and see how people remark how overdressed/autistic you look.

>Hell, look at high fashion cat walks. Half the models of well known labels run around in suits.

That is a really bad example. Models wear all kinds of shit you aren't supposed to wear casually. Most of the time, what is shown on runways are concepts and not sold to the general public.

>Always makes me smile when people claim that suits are formal.
>Suits arent formal per se. Its the things you wear with the suit that makes it formal.

Funny, because I do so on a daily basis. But I guess people would look at you if you wear a suit in the ghetto. Cant judge that, though. Besides: your argument against wearing something is the opinion of strangers? Pretty pathetic.

>That is a really bad example
It isnt. Its the perfect example for a casual approach to wearing this sort of cloth. That doesnt mean that all outfit have a place in the real world. It simply means that a lot of fits serve as inspiration. See pic related as an example. This outfit is neither impractical, nor conceptual, nor formal. Its a casual approach to wearing a suit.

It is not an argument against suits, it is an argument against suits being casualwear. As much as it is denied, how formal/casual something is has to do with how socially acceptable it is perceived for an occasion. Like it or not, this is determined by other people. You can't just refer to something as casualwear when it is widely seen as overdressed to most occasions.

>Its a casual approach to wearing a suit.
It may be a casual approach to wearing a suit, but it still doesn't make it normal casualwear. How many others do you see running around in suits on a jog or out to buy milk?

The problem with this board is that it's not about fashion, it's about people who want to dress themselves.

So it dissolves into easy styles that people can rinse and repeat because the loudest voice isn't the "try your own thing and figure it out" voice, it's the "you look like shit, you look like a cuck" voice that basically forces the people with an entry level interest in fashion into a shitty box so that they can think they look decent, instead of developing a real sense of style.

Furthermore, most of the people with their own senses of fashion don't post here anymore at all because of the previous point.

>'look how I'm soaking my jeans in piss'
>c00lt0p/jimmy stewart thread
>hourly casemods threads

The only difference I can see was that back then this board was more friendly to people new to fashion, maybe because there was no sticky yet and image dumps of guides were special occasions. The guides from back then get a lot of shit for being boring and 'dadcore' but at least they happened and people were generally helpful, especially tripfags. I can't get into how /fa/ dresses today because I don't even know where to start. Maybe I'm just too old though and it's just not my style.

Anyway I don't really see any reason to browse this board nowadays unless you wanna circlejerk about your new rick owens. New people and guys who don't know what they're doing yet seem to get ignored mostly, at least that's my impression, but only come here on occasion nowadays.

No it wasnt. You literally said that people will basically raise their eyebrows as soon as they see you wearing a suit at the supermarket. That isnt only wrong (at least for where I live) but youre also implying that a person can tell the difference between you coming from work and just casually stopping by. Where do you live? Soviet Russia? Do people at your supermarket ask you if youre coming from work or what?

Get your shit together. Either people raise eyebrows as soon as you wear a suit or they dont. Theres no 'they do if you did X prior to going to the supermarket' because they cant tell where you just came from. And as I said: if half the males at the supermarket wear suits, which is the case where I live but maybe hour supermarkets simply are nicer than the ones in the US, then no one even turns their head if you do as well.

>>10381658

People just stop posting fits online, nothing more to it. Styleforum was first, then came other boards and now its 4chinz. I dont know why shit his the fan, but if I had to guess I would assume that its the cheap availablity of clothes and the rise of fast fashion through brands like Zara and Primark.

I dont wanna bitch about young users but there also is a significant difference between old and new users, on almost any forum. It used to be common to browse a forum before you post. Accustom yourself to the stuff that is common and try to learn by watching and then, when you learned the basics, you start to post yourself. Basically lurking as we would call it. This has become way less common and especially new users tend to immediately post without having the slightest clue what the fuck is going on.

Stuff like that doesnt only happen here. You can observe is anywhere. Styleforums old WAYWT basically was invaded by a bunch of college freshmen twinks who kept insulting most of the more mature users which resulted in the adults leaving and the younger posters staying behind, swimming in their own shit.
