If you've got $8k lying around, the M-P is Leica's attempt at a digital M3.

I have this. Fits in a pocket but will slightly fuck up your silhouette.

Using film makes me focus more on composing unique shots. With a digital camera it's tempting to take 5 of the same shot. I'm taking way less pictures a week, maybe only a single roll, but the results are more thoughtful.

Of course, you do have to be a decent photographer to pull it off. You ARE a decent photographer and not just a gearfag, right?

>> No.10369897

Back in the days before digital, you used a Polaroid camera when you needed a picture immediately. The tradeoffs were poor quality (mostly due to limitations of instant film), high cost per shot (at least 5x the cost of regular negative film), and poor archival stability.

Then digital cameras came out and gave instant results with high quality and no film cost. Polaroid went bankrupt nearly immediately and the film and cameras disappeared from the market for a while until hipsters picked up on it and Fuji started exporting instant film for to the US.

tl;dr sure, if by "fun" you mean takes really shitty pictures on really expensive film that will turn yellow and fade in five years.

You covered the downsides of Polaroid well, but at the risk of being dismissed as a hipster let's look at what's appealing about it.

It's not digital and instantly shared across the world. The moment and memory are private. Not taken so all your friends see where you are an how much fun you're having, but for yourself.

Now you can ask why not just use a standard film camera if you want to record a private moment.

And the reason is the same one you mentioned, the same one that made Polaroid popular in the first place. Immediacy. And also, they're fun.

And whether the film yellows or not isn't really a concern. Having the physical photograph, holding it in your hand, adds a depth and dimension to the image that's far more valuable than perfect pixel fidelity.

>>10369174
Have the x100s as my only camera. Like it a lot. Keep contemplating getting the conversion lenses, but then I remember why I bought it and sold my dslr: I just want simiplicity.

I'm guessing you never used Polaroid when was the only option. Nobody liked it for anything other than instant results. It was crap. That's why the company folded as soon as digital cameras became affordable.

Also, you know you don't have to share digital photos with anybody, right?

Then again, if you want to spend your money on stupid bullshit, who am I to stop you. Our economy runs on idiots buying dumb crap.
