Hey, /fa/.
Winter is coming, and boat shoes/slip ons/converses won't do with snow and cold. Can we get a winter footwear thread?

Any comfy looking shoes are welcome, obvious bonus to boots- working, or otherwise. Sock recommendations are also goodies.

How do you keep your feet warm, yet fa, /fa/?

well i just wear my ratty old converse when im running to class or whatever. i walked 5 miles through snow once in my desert boots and my feet werent cold, fucked up the shoes though.
unlless your gonna spend an extended period in snow/water, at night, or live somewhere colder MA, youll be fine with whatever and maybe a thick pair of socks.

Go to a decent outdoors or hiking shop, buy some durable hiking boots that are comfy from there. It won't be effay but it will be far more practical, durable and a lot better value for money than anything suggested here.

I have £30 hiking boots from over four years ago that still work perfectly now, keeping my feet warm, dry and comfy in almost all weather and terrain. Sure they don't work with any fits but when you're crossing a snow covered field you don't trade function for looks.

Can I wear Geos for winter?

>> No.10280550

Coming from experience, if your winters don't go below -10˚C don't worry about getting super warm boots, like others have mentioned wool socks will be just fine. Get smartwools. For everything in the -10˚C to -40˚C you need shoes/boots that have a gore-tex (or 3 layer breathable material) exterior or a treated/treatable leather exterior. Bonus points if it has a warm liner. Then get the thickest synthetic socks that will fit in your shoes/boots. If you can't find anything at least get cotton waterproofing from nikwax and treat your canvas shoes.

Depends from pair to pair, you absolutely, and I mean ABSOLUTELY need to see in person the pair you want to buy. Fold the leather and check that the creases don't look like lose grain, check the stitches, inspect everything carefully in general.

You can probably get just as good a pair of shoe by buying a pair of Redwings (they have a model which looks a lot like this one, no not the one with the cap toe) for less money I think, and a better reputation for quality.

i think you can get a more rugged sole for iron rangers, which i would consider but i'll need new work boots so i'll probably get another pair of red wings that are actually suitable to work in (pic related). i'm sure they'll wear nicely like the IR and be decent for winter as well (canadian master race here).

Looks like leather and sole begin to separate (must have been just sticked with some glue), no sign of good year welt (almost obligatory on most of vintage army boots if you want it to last), leather quality seems also questionnable.

My guess is at the very least these boots have never been taken care of and are now very ugly

ebay can definitely be your best friend if you dont wanna put hundreds in boots. vintage army boots are imo definitely the way to go.

Pic related, Corcorans. Warning, pic is wonderful, such a result is almost impossible to get without wasting hours polishing it.
