It was my first season out of design school and I hardly had any experience as an intern yet a lone a temp at a design studio. Somehow, someone went behind my back and sent out photocopies of my work and parts of my sketchbook along with my contact info. I suspected it was one of my instructors or friends, but I don't have many people close to me so I refrained from looking who to blame as to keep the very few people I held close to me as they were.

Anyways that first Saturday after graduation I received a phone call by a very well spoken women. She spoke with such confidence and her tone was serious enough for me to rule out a silly prank. She asked me what my name was and if I was the author and artist of the portfolio she was looking at. She described my work perfectly, down to the color scheme and the compositions, like she knew I was drawing the words out of a DFW novel. I admitted that she was indeed looking at my drawings, and she asked me to meet her this Sunday for brunch (some growing trend in LA among artsy folks). I agreed to meet her, and by the time we hung up the phone she spoke for 30 minutes about my work and I had spoken no more than a handful of words.

The next morning I got up real early from a sleepless night. I remembered my wardrobe was that of a poor broke student buying few designer pieces to dress as a manifesto of their silly little stylistic philosophy, in other words destroyed black jeans and a pair of big leather sneakers, the ones with the swoosh and a draped silk tee shirt. Anyways I threw this on and carelessly waited for 10 AM bus to Culver City where I arranged to meet that lady that called the day before at 11 AM. She called during the bus ride and told me to walk to the theater past the flee markets and wait for her to call me to her.

I kinda find these prices hard to believe
Are they actually confirmed prices or estimates?
Even if it's all made in Europe, the prices are just beyond ridiculous, I'd imagine the crowd that are willing to throw this amount of money to clothing in the first place is very fashion savvy to begin with, and there is very little going on with these clothes design-wise so really that leaves hype (does this even exist other than for the footwear?) and Kanye's name to justify the price.
I don't really know what to make of this
Maybe it will all sell out in hours because streetwear is so hype now
Maybe it will sell very little and clear only during massive reduction in prices during sales
Maybe it will become a sought after 'classic' collection with time and the prices are just going to rise

>but it's got notoriously bad mastering.
I mean, to the general public it's not that noticeable, and honestly it's not that bothersome. The album's fine.

Some of Watch the Throne and a lot of Cruel Summer are much better examples of Ye/GOOD music having bad production.

And Cherry Bomb, now that's a truly atrocious example.
(Except, of course, it's more because of the mixing than the mastering on that one…but take arguments about this to /mu/.)

I think Kanye always believes that his style/name will carry whatever he sells no matter what.

It didn't work that well for his previous attempts at fashion in 2011/12, and to be honest, his general audience is actually not that rich, and mostly focus on getting his style for $10 on a clearance rack, outside of sneakers of course. I really think he's gonna shoot himself in the foot trying to price his stuff alongside renowned houses and designers. His name alone isn't gonna convince that many hypebeasts to pay luxury prices.

I guess I imagine the audience that does pay this much for clothes has a little more respect for the quality of what they're buying, which adidas can obviously not provide. Could be wrong though, his clothing fanbase is already fuckin' stupid enough to buy his shoes to begin with.

>> No.10277505

>>10277456
I don´t think that kanye choose the prices actually, he would have sold for a lot cheaper, it´s just Adidas trying to milk the hype.

Still silly. What do you want him to do to a sweatshirt or a bomber so that it's completely innovative? This is a clothing line meant for distribution in high end department stores and specialty boutique. They're clothes. He's not a pattern maker, he's a dude putting out stuff that aligns with how he dresses. Even from your own example, the APC parka has a completely different lapel and placket than the DRKSHDW he wore. And what do you want him to do to the hood of an N3-B? My Alpha Industries one is just as exaggerated of a hood as any Rick one and no one complains about that.

It's fine if you don't like Kanye, but I don't get why people bend over backwards to criticize him and spend a ton of time taking about how little they think of him.

lol you dumbfucks really have no clue about designer clothing. Kanyes stuff is expensive because its made in ITALY. ITALY is the most pretigious place to have clothing made, nothing else can compare to the quality and construction.

>> No.10278077

>>10277993

Let's see if they get pricing under control with subsequent seasons. These are factories that Adidas has never used before and these are significantly smaller runs than what you get with the Chinese/Hong Kong factories that make Y-3 apparel. Also, these are fabrics that were sourced just for this collection, so it's not stuff they have on hand or are carrying over from previous seasons like you have with the Y-3 lux terry and whatnot.

Not saying that country of origin is the only reason to justify pricing, but it's a bit silly when you're comparing production in Macau, Romania, and Portugal to Italy and Belgium where production costs are significantly higher.

>>10278034

I think that's a bit of an overgeneralization. Knit factories in Hong Kong are fantastic with really great quality control and are used by a ton of contemporary and designer labels. There's also fantastic denim production in Japan and the U.S., very good sportswear factories in Canada and the U.S., lots of solid leather work out of Spain and Mexico, and it's obvious why brands like Balmain and Lanvin continue to produce a lot of their clothing in France.

but you cant argue that italy was the first and still most regarded place for clothing manufacturing

Yes, it has a reputation, but always take it with a grain of salt. There's a correlation to quality, but not a guarantee. Judge the product, not the tag.

You do realize there is no law regarding the statement of saying something is made in Italy? Anyone could make clothing and attach a made in Italy label to it, it is allowed by Italian law. Moncler got caught, most of their factories were/are in fact in Moldova, the poorest country in Europe.
