That's because decent casual IS dadcore nowadays. Casual = Business casual, so you need to go preppy.

The only thing I can think of that looks fashionable and isn't dadcore is the old sneakers-jeans-tshirt-hoodie combo. But that's not the most interesting look. You might also experiment with shirts-jeans-sneakers combos.

If you don't want to go niggercore or businesscore, you can't be very fashionable today. Sorry.
