Personally I still think PRL isn't bad, provided you stay away from the outlets. The newer lines of BB and JP are pretty swell too. Also LL. Bean is incredibly good. Gant is pretty good as well. So those are the brands I mainly stick to at the moment.

Dude, just get them tailored. I do it with any sort of polo shirt or sport shirt I purchase, regardless of location or fit. It's an assumed necessity if you want things to fit right - it's not "ridiculous" to do so.

My method of shopping is to assume that, for any given shirt, it'll cost $10-15 to alter it to fit right. Every single shirt except for like undershirts, no exceptions.

So my basic prep shoe collection, ideally would go something along the lines of a couple pairs of boat shoes, be they sperrys or kjp or rancourt, at least one pair of loafers in brown, brown and black oxfords, and bean boots. My view on Bean Boots are the same way, every basic mother fucker has them. I went to James Madison University for a semester and literally every girl and boy had them. They were so ubiquitous I saw people wearing them with sweatpants and a t shirt when there wasn't even inclement weather.

I've worn just white vans (I'm from a oceanside surf town so I threw my own skate/surf style on prep). They are cheap and last a fair while.

The "Official" prep canvas shoes is the Tretorn Nylite. They are also cheap and pretty dope, I've had a pair and I'd recommend these if you don't like vans.

This. Honestly, while I like seeing people dress nicely in public or even for dinners, if they aren't part of the WASP life it always comes off as a bit try-hard and downright cosplayish.
