Another tip is to REALLY not go for "fast fashion" cheap clothes that you think look nice and are easy to look good in. This will lead you with a bunch of clothes you will regret purchasing and typically the cheaper stuff is trendy and will look really lame once the trend dies, save up for really good pieces. Then again I'm a guy so I can imagine that this advice is really gender specific and might be difficult for girls, I guess in that case thrift/designer would be the way to go because with thrift stuff you're not wasting your money as much and you can occasionally find some good designer stuff. Really though look into different styles, comfy-core, pale-wave, normcore, wealth-core, healthgoth. Also before you dress nice, no matter how nicely you dress you will never feel as good as having a nice body and nice skin so try going to skin-general or /fit/ if you have to until you get that sorted. Finally I will say since you're a little bit lost, in all honesty if you just don't want to dress horrible try out Uniqlo or some similar brand/site until you're ready, I know they're kinda fast fashion but it's the best fit for you right now and they're decent for starting to dress consciously.

This advice comes from just one person so take it with a grain of salt and be open to other advice too, all in all develop yourself and your own philosophy in dressing.

I found out the hard way that fast fashion is crap. I do own some fast fashion pieces but I am phasing them out. So it's not gender specific at all, cheap clothing is cheap and makes you feel cheap. I generally thrift clothing or make my own garments.
Is there a place I can learn about the different styles you mentioned?

Honestly I just searched up some of the names on tumblr right now and found some images, some were harder to find than others but I'm sure if you click enough links you'll find dedicated blogs or something. It's also important to find designers/brands you like, there's a lot but they generally put fits together with their pieces and that can act as really good inspo. Acne Studios is one of my favorites and they have some good women's wear. So yeah just search up tags on tumblr and explore blogs yourself to develop your own taste.
Also mad props for being willing to take criticism and not giving up.

Go to net-a-porter, farfetch or ssense and browse all the designers. Then do some research about the designers you like and you'll find inspiration for those specific pieces.

If you want us to give you more specific advices, you should post a pic of yourself in normal, tight clothes. Blur your face of course but describe it too, along with your everyday make up, or just hide half of it if you feel courageous.

Yes I am short, but I am also a lot (how to put this eloquently) more voluptuous (and also kind of fat but working on it) than asians so most of their clothes looks really bad on me. I wear lolita though. I'm good with color coording but I always seem to look frumpy as hell. loosening it seems like a good idea, but a belt around your hips might make for an interesting silhouette also. i'm not a huge fan of this belt in particular, so if you do decide to of for something around the waist you want have to go looking for a new one (or punch some extra holes into one that you already have)

I'm considered "voluptuous" too (TFW latina). I used to wear "lolita" inspired things I guess but I got sick of it really quickly after a few years...it's definitely one of those things that look automatically "appealing" because waist cinching etc. Although I don't think you should wear that black dress with a belt, at least not at the waist.

If anything (and sorry to be a creep here lmao) it isn't the best dress in the world for your figure but if you pair it into a slouchy fit with other things in your closet I'm sure you have that will slim the top of it down it'll be kinda nice.

Also to the anon who said put a shirt with a collar underneath, YES. If the collar shows well, at least. I'd honestly pair that with a cardigan or knit and go out from there. I'm just trying to think of what you might already own if you're into the cutesy stuff. Hope I'm helping.
