I guess these are kinda generic in the fragrance community but they are popular for a reason. Girls don't really give a shit about expensive avant garde fragrances.

-Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Malt
-YSL La Nuit de L'homme
-Chanel Allure Homme Eau Extreme
-Bleu de Chanel
-Acqua di Parma blu mediterraneo range for summer

Meme Creed Aventus but a crowd pleaser none the less

>> No.10159806

>>10159776
Well, for one I don't think you need to buy something that expensive to "appeal to girls", there are tons of fragrances that girls will like. They're not really picky as long as if smells good of course.
For example you can try "masculine" scents like Montblanc Legend, something fresh and clean like Invictus, or something sweet like Joop! or 1 Million. 1 Million is common as fuck (which will drive the autism out of the fags here) but the fact that it's common means most people like it, you know?

Next time get samples and try one on the outside of your forearm a couple different days of the week, around the house if you want, and see how each one smells over time on you. id recommend you look up some high rated ones on fragrantica then go check em out in store so you know which ones to try, only choose a couple at a time though otherwise eventually everything will end up smelling the same to you, spray maybe 5-6 on paper, wait a couple minutes, decide 2 you really like and spray it on your skin, then keep em on for a couple hours then choose from there

Scent bar is an amazing place, but it ain't cheap. They will make tiny 1ml samples of a couple scents for you, but save that trip til you're more experienced.

Seconding Sephora. They will gladly make up to three 2.5ml spray samples for you per visit. It's a great way to get a chance to wear things over time to get a sense of what you like and what works on you. Check out http://www.basenotes.net/bn_todaysscent.php?p=boys&t=alltime and try what they have from that list. Several of my favorites there include: Terre d'Hermes, Vetiver by Guerlain (not sure if Sephora carries), Dior Homme and its "flankers," A*Men, Fahrenheit, Egoiste...

Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but all those are about $50 and under, IIRC. For truly cheap deals, you gotta go to TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross, but you can't sample there. You can return opened fragrances however, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

As a member of both sites, I think they have their strengths and weaknesses:

BN
I get the feeling that their reviewers are more serious and experienced.
I love their "your wardrobe" database with all the sublists. Names are so much more useful than FG's pictures.
Their scent of the day and related features, but I admit I haven't ever used FG's.
I prefer their star ratings over the love/like/dislike of Fragrantica

FG
I love their user votes for notes, longevity and sillage. Wish you didn't have to hover over each note pic to see what it is. Also the season and day/night voting, even if I don't agree with many, it's still neat to see what most people think. BN lets you rate longevity and sillage but doesn't do anything with that data.

I think both sites are ugly to look at.

So to sum up, I prefer BN for its reviews and it's my go-to site, but FG has more statistics and seems to be the more popular site. It always comes up first in a google search.

I like but don't love Eau Sauvage. At least it hasn't clicked with me yet. To me it is the best smelling lemony cleaning product you ever met. It also has horrible longevity on me. I just discovered picture related and I already love it. It really does a lot for only having three reported notes, and has some staying power and balls. The EdT is is the gentleman that is polite to ladies but never gets any tail. The EdP is also a gentleman, but like The Most Interesting Man in the World, dripping in pussy.

What do you think is the best, semi-cheap ($20-$50) cologne that has a nice earthy, woodsy, musky vibe to it and is good for August-October weather? That is to say, still hot but gradually getting cooler. Also something casual that I can wear to work. I already have Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boise and Burberry for Men, but I was looking for another option. I feel the Burberry is better for mid October or later.

What do you like? What types of smells or even feels of scents? You gotta like some things other than "general." Wearing a fragrance is mostly about how it makes me feel. Shit weather meaning cold, overcast and lots of rain. The reason I'm asking for recs for a general wear is because the stuff I tend to like the smell of aren't very casual, everyday, just going to uni for a few hours kinds of smells. So I'm hoping someone can steer me towards some scents that I can then go and give a sniff and pick from there. If that makes sense.

How does "age group" for fragrances work?

I've often seen people say "This fragrance I would recommend for people ages 25 and up..." or some shit.

Why?

What lends a fragrance something that makes it more suitable for older people or more suitable for younger people?

>> No.10197897

>>10197700
I think the simple answer is sweeter=younger. The thing is I can't stand most sweet scents. I like interesting, well-composed scents, and most of the time, those tend to be more "mature."

I liken it to music. When you're a kid and don't know much about music, you like more easily accessible pop music, then your tastes mature and you get to appreciate more interesting and varied genres. Same with fragrances. And then some people never get tired of pop music...

It's known for being an "intimate" scent where you have to get up close and personal to smell it. It's by no means a projection fragrance, but I wish it was. I bought a tester from EBay (risky I know) but it's an online seller's eBay account. I have a sample too so I'll compare them.

>> No.10199820

what do you guys think about byredo?

>> No.10199942

>>10197700
I think it's the image that it puts in people's heads. For example if you smell one fragrance it might make you think of a walk on the beach or in this case, an older gentleman, or sometimes an "old man" type scent. I don't think it's the sweetness of it, but maybe it's a factor for some. It gets thrown around too much sometimes, and I see it as the fragrance community being elitist or full of shit. I saw one guy saying that MontBlanc Legend was for older men, which is pure bullshit because Legend is pretty much always an entry level fragrance recommended for younger men, because it resembles A&E Fierce which American Eagle is a brand for younger people.

I wear BB regularly as a relaxy, after work frag, or when I'm just bumming around the neighborhood in a t shirt. I love the smell but it's not something I'd wear on a date or to work. Don't read too deep into the british royalty nonsense, it's just a really nice clean smelling citrus and black pepper.

Sartorial is strictly cool weather/winter for me, but I love the stuff. Both traditional and weird/avant garde at the same time. On this one I agree with the image, and I do wear it with suits, and pretty much only with suits.

Haven't tried the juniper sling yet.

Saw a 1.0 oz at TJ Maxx for $10 so I blind bought it for the hell of it. Apparently it's less sweet than the Intense version from what I've read but we'll see. I'm not expecting a longevity beast, but at least it's small and portable.
