Well, for one I don't think you need to buy something that expensive to "appeal to girls", there are tons of fragrances that girls will like. They're not really picky as long as if smells good of course.
For example you can try "masculine" scents like Montblanc Legend, something fresh and clean like Invictus, or something sweet like Joop! or 1 Million. 1 Million is common as fuck (which will drive the autism out of the fags here) but the fact that it's common means most people like it, you know?

Did you use those paper sticks and just smell them for a couple minutes one after another? If so, no wonder. Next time get samples and try one on the outside of your forearm a couple different days of the week, around the house if you want, and see how each one smells over time on you. Or just spray one arm in the store if you can't get samples, max one on each arm.

id recommend you look up some high rated ones on fragrantica then go check em out in store so you know which ones to try, only choose a couple at a time though otherwise eventually everything will end up smelling the same to you, spray maybe 5-6 on paper, wait a couple minutes, decide 2 you really like and spray it on your skin, then keep em on for a couple hours then choose from there

same.. there was one small boutique in detroit area that had cdg 2 man but the guy had to take it out of a box to let me smell it.. i felt kind of bad haha cuz i just smelled it and left.

i like to go to saks and neiman to test stuff. the attendants are really helpful and give you a fair amount if you ask to take a sample. i tried tom ford noir de noir and love it, but i wouldn't wear it in spring/summer except maybe at night. i liked the tom ford aquatics as well

Personally, I'm not a fan of rose or cumin, so I really dislike the scent for the first 4-5 hours, but it does have one of the most dynamic progressions of any perfume I've tried; really cool to notice how it changes hour to hour

Bleu de Chanel and Terre d'Hermes are pretty popular here re: versatility. Others worth checking out are Acqua di Parma Colonia Intensa and Colonia Leather, Bvlgari Blv pour homme, Lalique White, Penhaligon's Endymion, and Tauer Orange Star

Scent bar is an amazing place, but it ain't cheap. They will make tiny 1ml samples of a couple scents for you, but save that trip til you're more experienced.

Seconding Sephora. They will gladly make up to three 2.5ml spray samples for you per visit. It's a great way to get a chance to wear things over time to get a sense of what you like and what works on you. Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but all those are about $50 and under, IIRC. For truly cheap deals, you gotta go to TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross, but you can't sample there. You can return opened fragrances however, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it.

I tried Aventus but I really didnt like it. It kind of smelt like a piney ash tray to me. I think that smokey/tabaccoey fragrances really arent my thing. I really like Green Irish Tweed and Silver Mountain Water, but aventus, millisme imperial and himalaya really don't do it for me.

That stuff in particular is great and lasts for fucking ever.

Start off with a spray of each wrists and see how it goes throughout the day. If you don't mind not being able to smell it as easily, then you can apply other places. Chest works well if you have chest hair, or shirt, back of neck and behind ears are also popular places.

Never had a problem with longevity/sillage and remember you are going to get used to the fragrance while wearing it, so if you have friends around and still worried about performance, ask them (recently had the same problem with a sample of Aventus, thought the scent was gone and reapplied, met up with some friends and apparently I was protecting hard; quite mortifying tbh, no bigger faux pas in the world of perfume than overapplication imo)

I got this (Prada Infusion d'Homme for the ctrl+f) as my first ever cologne and I love it.
I spray it on my pillow and sheets before I go to sleep too because it smells like the hair of an angel.

As a member of both sites, I think they have their strengths and weaknesses:

BN
I get the feeling that their reviewers are more serious and experienced.
I love their "your wardrobe" database with all the sublists. Names are so much more useful than FG's pictures.
Their scent of the day and related features, but I admit I haven't ever used FG's.
I prefer their star ratings over the love/like/dislike of Fragrantica

FG
I love their user votes for notes, longevity and sillage. Wish you didn't have to hover over each note pic to see what it is. Also the season and day/night voting, even if I don't agree with many, it's still neat to see what most people think. BN lets you rate longevity and sillage but doesn't do anything with that data.

I think both sites are ugly to look at.

So to sum up, I prefer BN for its reviews and it's my go-to site, but FG has more statistics and seems to be the more popular site. It always comes up first in a google search.

I like but don't love Eau Sauvage. At least it hasn't clicked with me yet. To me it is the best smelling lemony cleaning product you ever met. It also has horrible longevity on me. I think it's the image that it puts in people's heads. For example if you smell one fragrance it might make you think of a walk on the beach or in this case, an older gentleman, or sometimes an "old man" type scent. I don't think it's the sweetness of it, but maybe it's a factor for some. It gets thrown around too much sometimes, and I see it as the fragrance community being elitist or full of shit. I wear BB regularly as a relaxy, after work frag, or when I'm just bumming around the neighborhood in a t shirt. I love the smell but it's not something I'd wear on a date or to work. Don't read too deep into the british royalty nonsense, it's just a really nice clean smelling citrus and black pepper.

Sartorial is strictly cool weather/winter for me, but I love the stuff. Both traditional and weird/avant garde at the same time. On this one I agree with the image, and I do wear it with suits, and pretty much only with suits.
