ricks stuff will always look good to those who get it and it can't go mainstream because regular people don't want to spend massive amounts on stuff that makes them look weird to their peers. try wearing Rick to work and just listen to the comments. if you are trying to build a 'timeless' collection that get form fitting good quality denim and white shirts. I feel like I need to answer this one first.

I don't know what it is about /fa/ exactly, but I get the impression that there aren't many of you that have friends IRL who are into the same things you are. I feel as if /fa/ (or 4chan in general) is the place you go to to be around more people with the interests that you have since there are none around you. I personally do not have this experience. I got into fashion and designer clothing from being surrounded by friends who were into it, and a girlfriend who was already into and very supportive of me dressing well (she bought me my first APC shirt and then it started to click for me from that that I should probably graduate from buying H&M and AA). There was a boutique near my house, Blackbird, that had a ton of really great "dark" menswear designers like Julius, Odyn Vovk, Rick Owens, 3L, Aleksandr Manamis, et cetera. I used to hang out there and marvel at the really cool pieces from a distance but knew that I would never be able to pull them off.
One day, one of the salespeople (know one of my very close friends) put on a hoodie by Odyn Vovk that I had seen on their website and on the rack and always thought looked hella too goth, but when he put it on my perception changed suddenly. I feel like something "clicked" and that I now understood what the piece was the way it is. All the pictures made it look so goth but IRL it was really cool and wearable. Looked totally different than on the rack. I bought that hoodie after trying it on and falling in love... but I had hardly anything to wear with it.
That was about 3-4 years ago, and I've been building my wardrobe towards that aesthetic ever since, and making friends in the industry and the local community over this passion. This is all to say that I surround myself with people who care about the things I care about, whether it's clothing or just design in general.

Most people love Rick. Even the plebs. I always get asked about where I got something I'm wearing. Especially my Rick Owens Tech Runners, at least 3 times a day if I'm wearing them.

All that shit about people saying 'you know people laugh at you when you wear that right' is bullshit outside of 4chan. Surround yourself by people who love what you love! Get to know your local clothing and fashion community, hang out at those parties. I know plenty of people who dress crazier than I do.

I don't get people who don't do what they want.

Fashion is like anything, you should behave in accordance to your own tastes. I think Rick's clothing is beautiful, and that's why I buy and wear it.

The only intention Rick has is for you to like his things and wear them. If you don't like it, fine.

If you don't understand it, maybe that's on you. I like how you are so quick to shrink an idea like art appreciation into "2deep4u". Why like anything? Are you supposed to just have a passing interest in things? Are we going to ignore that digging deep into any area of fine art is very rewarding, or that it alters your perception? Rick is the kind of designer that takes the history of clothing and fashion into consideration with his designs, as well as a sort of prediction of where it can, or should, go. If you are used to just fast fashion jeans and t-shirts everywhere, I can see how it would be jarring, but to me it looks very natural, it has a timeless quality and a very modern feeling to it.

I'm not going to listen to the radio all the time just so I can know all the music everyone talks about, I'm going to listen to shit I love to listen to even if I can't talk to most people about it. I'm not going to wear shit you think is appropriate because who are you, and why do you think I need to impress you? I don't really want anything to do with someone who has an issue with the way I look.If I'm crossing the street and people are staring, then whatever, I'm probably listening to music or talking to someone.

This never happens though. I've never had any social problems. If anything, it's brought me into contact with people I can relate to.

So there you go. Do what you want, because you're going to die

Pretty much sums it up. I love dressing in Rick and other more high end designer clothing because why look like everyone else? Why look boring? Everybody has to wear clothing all day and it affects how you look and are perceived greatly so why not fuck with people's perception? Life is short and then you die so stand out while you can.

Both are pretty uncomfortable to begin with like all structured leather shoe that needs breaking in.

Suede will mark a bit more if you dont look after it and personally I think the leathers age a bit more gracefully, but at the end of the day it what you prefer

I was thinking about the guy trying to build a 'timeless' Rick collection. Fashion is by definition not timeless, Rick was just slow moving. With all the colours and different art references creeping into his work, his work is becoming more fleeting with every season. Im so upset I sold my double layer. I had a white one from Naska and I copped for 185 off ebay but I sold on grailed for like 190, it was a size XL but Im 6ft so no big deal. I wrapped it around my torso and it had the most beautiful texture. Honestly worth 250 if you can find one second hand to be honest, its one of those pieces you could die in.

Those are army issued boots, they look like total garbage, being in the Army I can spot shit surplus pretty easily. Those boots are gov issued but the sole is vibram so they last forever. I have 3 pairs but would never wear them in fits, its cringe worthy really.

One of the reasons I really like his basic clothes is because of their ability to blend with so many other designers, or even 'normal' clothes. For reference see shui tsang, he often mixes Rick with basic tier clothing such as Uniqlo, as well as more forward thinking designers like Jan Jan Van Essche.

As for Ricks more ostentatious pieces, they also work exceptionally well with basic pieces, like geos with sweatpants and a tank.

Because construction is great, design is great (single seem fits way better imo), very thin, very good material, which makes it great flow, great for layering, great for just a really light shirt in the summer.

Personally I'm pretty over Rick as a name brand, the mainstream popularity has left me with a closet full of clothes I dont care much to wear, but if you like that style, Rick makes some KEY components to it, and it is quality stuff.

I have a blistered Scuba. It seems like it will be flaky, but it doesn't flake off surprisingly. The material is unreal. It's really light and soft, and looks unlike leather or any other material I've seen.
Mine is from Island. Can post more fit pics if you want.
Also it's basically brand new condition with tags and for sale.

FW13 Plinth. Those zipper-pullers were a one season thing. Strange thing. Before that he had used the same ones since essentially creation of the brand.

The next season the pullers were changed again and I guess Rick decided to stick with them for a while. However if you look at the photos for the SS16 show it looks like the classic pullers are coming back. Rejoice.
