Are there any /fa/ approved sneaker-buying guides?

Like, say, you find a sneaker being sold. How do you tell what quality it is? I mean, obviously the price is some kind of indicator, sure, but /fa/ shoes (apparently) come in all prices, as well as unfashionable ones. What if, say, the shoe isn't famous/discussed on /fa/, or some other reason? Perhaps there's a very intriguing sneaker you're thinking of getting, but you don't still have quite an understanding of what makes a good sneaker good versus a bad one bad? I mean, I could choose something that I like, but there does seem to be some kind of consensus (maybe in a broad sense) that some shoes are just better than others, and, frankly, I can't always pick out which one is the superior model.

Can somebody write a guide/point me to one that describes how to appraise a sneaker? It doesn't have to be an end-all solution, exactly, just something that I can refer to in order to understand what I'm looking for when I get one, other than just hype online. Maybe with some consideration for the rest of the fit.

I checked the sticky but there didn't seem to be anything like it. Maybe I might have missed it?

I wear and buy sneakers for the last 8 years now and my advice is simply stick to classics. There is a reason NB, Nike, Adidas, Saucony etc. are and remains the greats. You could go for more expensive one's like cp's or whatever but in all fairness after wearing sneakers for a year they all look busted and you want a new pair. Now an important thing to notice is that you get sneakers for style over subtance, you can't exercise long with sneakers nor can you walk great distances. Your feet will hurt, if you wear sneakers or get a pair of oxfords. So just pick something you like (colours, form and brand). For instance the NB's are a bit more square and clunky than the sleeker Nike's. Adidas enjoys best of both worlds. It's all how you combine it with your own style. Now i could go into the different fabrics brands use or what place they were made and how it changes the styles of sneakers but ultimately just go to a sneaker specialized store and get a pair. There are lots of sneakerheads who pick out the best styles and who made their hobbies into their jobs. Get chummy with the owners and get a discount :D.

maintain a good quality pair of shoes and they will last longer than you.

the only advice I have is that you get what you pay for. sometimes that involves a large premium to get to the premium materials, but once you learn to hunt for sales, etc. you can find some good deals.

stan smiths for example, IMO, look like total shit irl. they have a decent toebox and absolutely classic silhouette, but the leather, laces, etc. all look really cheap and don't age well. You can buy some new laces and throw em on or something, and get new shoes once a year. having new shoes is nice.

investing in some nice shoes (CPs on sale for example) is the better option, as they'll hold up for years looking good out of the box and three years down the line. as long as you don't beat he absolute shit out of them you can replace the soles if needed and they will last a lifetime.

it's up to you to decide if you want to stick to a sneaker for years, do you like the look of an aged designer sneaker, go to footlocker and ask yourself if the cheaper sneakers look good and if you want to get a new pair once a year.

well this is all my personal beliefs and i maintain this advice. Also i think /fa/ is completely different than true sneakerhead fashion, but i guess jerking off to japanese wearing NB's is acceptable even though they are wearing "children shoes". Stick to your cool boots and your rick owens.
