Can we talk about the encroaching amount of Made in Moldova pieces Rick has been including? It started as leathers, mostly the preco standards that he does every season (Bauhaus, Mollino, Stooges, et cetera), then it started to show up on more of the interesting seasonal leathers like the bag stooges, now this season it's all over the plain cotton tunics. Like, what the fuck. That and YKK zips? I realize that textiles have been shooting up in price but I'm not sure that the compromise is worth it. Just weird that DRKSHDW pieces are ALL Made in Italy still and ALL still use Raccagni zips.

I haven't asked about the breakdown, but I've just assumed that it's the basic leathers (hammered lambs, blistered lambs, etc.) that are being moved outside of the Italian factory and that specialty seasonal styles and hides are still made in the Olmar + Mirta factory. Also, if anyone has a Moldovan leather, it'd be worth checking to see if it's still an Olmar + Mirta factory, just based in another country.

It's not about it being "fine" it's about a feeling of luxury when buying high end designer garments. Feeling like the choice is intentional. Raccagni zippers feel and look more substantial, plus the allure of Made in Italy does a lot for the status of a product, because let's be honest, I'm not buying a $3,000 jacket for it to be "fine", that's an adjective I use to describe things basics I buy from Zara. When I put my Mountain Bauhaus next to my Moody Bauhaus, the zipper teeth just do not look as good on the YKK. The zipper pull looks cheap, like I can tell from afar it looks like YKK, something I can find on AA hoodies. I dunno, just really loses its luster and I feel like the integrity of the design is lesser as a result. Obviously this is just like my opinion man but I can't help but start to turn away from Rick as a result and see other brands willing to put more attention to detail into their designs.

>> No.9978941

>>9978909

I honestly don't know where this criticism of YKK comes from. Just because they make cheap products doesn't make their more expensive products any less worthwhile.

>I'm not buying a $3,000 jacket for it to be "fine"

To be honest, I buy something expensive if I can afford it and I can't find anything I like as much that's cheaper. A minor change in fabrication with no noticeable change in weight or build quality won't dissuade me from buying something that I really like, really want, and really wear. I also think the AA comparison's a bit disingenuous, too. You put a basic DRKSHDW hoodie next to a basic AA hoodie (even an all cotton-one) and a blind man could still feel his way to all the differences: weight, elongated fit through the arm, pile on the fleece, fit through the body, width of the ribbed trim.

That said, if it makes you not happy about buying the product, then don't. You're the customer; you call the shots. Buy something else that makes you grin from ear to ear every time you zip it up and move on.

A blind person can feel the difference between YKK and Raccagni. They'll notice the metal is weighty and substantial feeling. They'll notice the teeth are large. They'll notice the polish is more smooth and fine. My point is that putting the two next to each other you'd be crazy to find the YKK more desirable or luxurious. It has its place as an affordable quality zipper but by no means does it provide wow factor nor does it inspire confidence in the intentions of the designer to switch to a product that is clearly the lesser. You actually prove my point here: the made in Moldova/YKK combo has kept me from purchasing any of his new leathers. Instead I'm looking towards brands with more inspired attention to details and looking at used garments that people in the community recognize as the superior Rick Owens era i.e. Crust et cetera. I just don't get the same excitement from his new as his old. I do love his collections as a whole though. Sphinx is one of my favorite I've seen in years.

If the garment is quality and holds up to other Rick leathers that have Racc and are made in Italy what the fuck is the problem? All I see is you being bitch.

As far as quality goes, dunks and geos around the mid to late 2000s are notorious for literally falling apart because they used staples and not glue/just one piece of rubber. can you provide a reference?

if like picture related, they wear down fast to what is your 'sole wear' pattern, are soft and get spongy when wet.

But they'll walk you over ANYTHING, sharp things will pierce (especially when sole is soaked).

"Raccagni"
"smooth and fine"

I can tell you right here my 10year old rick combats zippers are worn out and jam all the time.

Really, both companies produce competitive zippers for all commercial brackets (including luxury).

You can get large YKK zippers just as you can get small Raccagni zippers.

this isn't worth fretting about, measure the zipper itself (on the model), not the company (because they're both capable of shit and gold)

Intarsia is center zip and has come in a snap-buttoned moto collar and a higher funnel neck. Features curved seaming on the chest. Ribbed knit cuffs.

Bauhaus is a straight asymmetric zip (cuts away to the right of your neck) and has almost always features zip pockets at the top sleeve. Issued in a lot of variants; mostly leather, some fabric. Sleeves have alternated between button cuffs, ribbed cuffs, and snap-buttoned cuffs. Some versions have feature a long floating back yoke.

Hi effay. I'm looking into buying my first pair of designer sneaks (I do own black Achilles lows, but I wear them mostly as work shoes around the office, I work in an industry that is young and relaxed about appearances 95% of the time, so I wanted something nice, and they work great with everything barring a suit).

How tall are regular geos? I'm worried they'll accentuate my manletnesss (5'10").

I am deciding between a pair of geos, island dunks if they are too tall, black raf Velcro highs... I'm leaning more toward geos, just worried about the overall height of the shoe at its tallest
