All collectors seem stupid to people who aren't part of that hobby, collecting anything is stupid anyway. I don't understand why people pay shitloads of money to buy coins that are worth a couple of cents, but I don't go to numismatist forums to shit on their hobby because it's not my damn problem. What the hell utility does a thousand dollar pair of sneakers offer that some torn up $10 shoes don't?

I really don't care for the oversized plastic nerd-looking sensor watches I generally find. I understand the more data the trickier it is to present it with any elegance but I'd imagine just a compass watch shouldn't be too tricky. smaller faces and classic designs are my preference here

LVMH basically turned the brand in to something like Ralph lauren or Tommy hilfiger where they still do runway designs but you know that their main business is selling 5 buck polo shirts that become 50 buck polo shirts when you put their logo on them. Also Omega is not sold in crap mall boutiques, I've seen Tag Heuer in absolutely trash stores. It does matter where things are sold. Why do you think high end designers don't allow Macy's or JC Penny to carry their stuff. Even Barney's New York in Beverly Hills can't stock Rick Owens Mainline. There's nothing wrong with ETA. It's like the toyota of movements. The problem is when a watch maker pretends to be in the luxury market, but uses an ETA. It's like if Ferrari used a prebuilt Toyota engine. Tag Heuer in it's current state has no horological value, which in my opinion is a huge factor in buying a watch. Otherwise you're just dropping thousands of dollars on a piece of jewelry rather than a piece of functional art. ETA belongs in seikos and hamiltons, not Omega's or Tag's. To sum it up simply, Tag Heuer is a shell of its former self. It uses the legacy of the company it bought to prop itself up, but won't even put a inhouse movement in any of them. It's tarnishing a once great watchmaker and going for a total cash grab. Anyone who was a fan of Heuer didn't and still doesn't like the merger. They even promised to feature a new inhouse movement for the Anniversary Carrera the one that didn't have Tag (they know collectors don't want TAG to be associated), but at the last minute changed their mind and released another ETA based Carrera.

Modifying an ETA rather than making a new movement is just lazy and is used to widen their margin. From a business standpoint its fine and if all you want is to show a logo on your wrist then by all means, but enthusiasts will always want an inhouse movement not a modified ETA. When someone buys a Ferrari they like knowing that the engineering team did their damnedest to create something great, the same goes for watches.

Granted that the flawless brands I listed are indeed expensive it furthers my point that what justifies price is having a untarnished horological history. Also Jaeger can be found at reasonable prices if you know where to look. I'm strongly considering swapping a few of my watches for a Ultra Thin.

There is like 30 different models called "carrera". Not every one used the calibre 16 most use modified ETA's. They release only a small amount of watches that us inhouse and use ETA on the rest that make up a bulk of there sales. LVMH basically turned the brand in to something like Ralph lauren or Tommy hilfiger where they still do runway designs (inhouse) but you know that their main business is selling 5 buck polo shirts (ETA) that become 50 buck polo shirts when you put their logo on them.

Objectively speaking only on precision and power reserve probably, but I'd never wear it. It has no horological value. There's always gonna be a better option for the same price. Looking at the measurements the new one doesn't seem that much bigger, but in person it really looks swollen or something.

It's obviously a lot easier to get a hold of the new one, at least where I am.

If you had the choice, would you take:
No-date with minimal dial text (no cosc) (14060)
No-date with full COSC text (14060M)
Or
No-date with COSC and that fucking ROLEXROLEXROLEX chapter ring thing that's on all the new ones.

The last one's that strange hybrid in-betweener model; last of the line I think.

The problem with Hublot, as well a number of other manufacturers, is that they build the air of luxury, prestige, and innovation in their products and price them in accordance of that perception while not actually being prestigious or innovative, with the exclusion of some of their very high end (6 figures+) pieces.

Basically, Hublot has a bad reputation amongst watch enthusiasts because they use relatively inexpensive ETA movements, do a little in house finishing, and then sell the watch at a very high price. What fucking watch do I buy. I wear basic fits, mainly apc jeans, reigning champ/norse hoodie or sweater, black hightops.

I'm stuck between a bunch of watches. Seiko diver, parnis diver are nice but I want something pretty understated. I really like this parnis milgauss, but it's pretty fucking shiny in a lot of pics and I think it'll stand out too much? Any other silver bracelet watches that aren't as shiny?

Yeah they're more pricey though. I like the milgauss a lot but it's too shiny/dressy for my everyday fits I guess.

Diver is ok for that casual of a fit described? It's not too shiny, black dial, I like the dotted bezel more than any other diver watch.

The watch that the parnis is a knockoff of is actually pretty casual. Most rolex sport watches are very versatile

>> No.9986105

Yeah I wish I could just try them all on my wrist instead of scouring ebay. I just wear a casio terrorist and have been trying to find a casual everyday watch that isnt garbage for months.
I'm terribly indecisive, but I guess I've narrowed my choice down to those 2.

If the milgauss wasn't super shiny I'd cop that, there aren't any solutions or something I can soak it in to make it less shiny?

I think the diver might stand out too much, its bulkier looking than the parnis from pictures. I don't want the bezel catching on the cuff of my sweater or whatever. Im probably just retarded though, theyre both prety inexpensive I should just pull the trigger on one.

Seikos are very good watches, I recommend it over the parnis. However you could sand the parnis but then it would lose it's distinctive shine/aspects

Don't buy that cheap Chinese trash. The SKX007 is a great watch, I highly recommend it. Make sure you get a super oyster bracelet too though because it makes the watch look and feel a million times better than that piece of shit bracelet it comes on. If you're really so concerned about dressing it down you can always just put it on a nato strap too when you don't want to use the bracelet.

OK I don't know why I'm so drawn to the milgauss knockoff but I'm going to go with the advice and get the Seiko instead.

It will be more versatile; I'll get it with the black rubber strap, buy a super oyster bracelet (it indeed does look a lot nicer) later, as well as a decent NATO. That way I can dress up/down and it isn't super shiny.

Do I need some tools to switch out bands?

looking for a cheap mechanical watch, cba to buy off ebay and found this site, what you think of it? For £30 I am not really bothered http://www.thelibertyexperiment.co.uk/store/p18/Men%27s_Skeleton_Automatic_Mechanical_Watch_.html

The fact that it's so cheap and there is no information about a maker or what movement it uses leads me to believe it's cheap Chinese garbage. If you want cheap buy a Vostok Komandirskie or step up to an Amphibia or Seiko 5. None of those are amazing but they're solid and dependable watches.
