So I usually use Valentino Uomo and Margiela Jazz Club as my go to scents, but I was at a Shopper's Drug Mart today and they had a bunch of old designer colognes and beauty products on clearance because their packages was outdated or they were discontinued.

I bought a $10 bottle of Z by Zenga and $13 bottle of Dior "Higher" scented after-shave.

Honestly I'm not too crazy about either of them, but for the price point I'm not complaining. Z by Zenga is sporty and inoffensive, just pleasant and normal. Higher by Dior is a little more interesting with some fruity notes, but it's also pretty normal.

Thinking of going back tomorrow to get the whole Higher by Dior line. They had a massive bottle of Dior body gel and shampoo that was also $13. I usually use Khiels products and Dior's are usually more expensive, so why not?

The bottles are hilarious. They look like they're from 2005. They probably are.

Fahrenheit is mainly for mature, "manly" men, yes, but you should still try it because it most certainly fits your style.

If you're unsure about Fahrenheit and find Dior Homme Parfum too pricy or unavailable where you live (I've heard it's hard to find in the US) then get a sample of Bvlgari Black. It's a tad more feminine-leaning than these two; a nice mix of vanilla and tea (I don't really get the rubber notes everyone keeps mentioning in reviews). I *personally* find it too "soft" and cloying for my tastes, but it is certainly more wearable than Fahrenheit, which is just a fucking heavy scent, even the reformulated version.

I'm 23 and have somewhat similar aesthetic preferences as you; and these three are the ones that I've found fits this style the best.

Some other anons also recommended CdG Kyoto. Haven't tried that one because it's so hard to find here but it might be worth a shot as well. And one more; Chanel Antaeus, if Fahrenheit wasn't loud and "manly" enough for you. Otherwise, don't even think about it.

This is my current summer wardrobe
-YSL L'Homme
-Bvlgari Man Extreme
-Versace Pour Homme
-Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisee
-Nautica Voyage

I want to add one more but I want something different, something that differentiates itself from what I have seeing as how they all sort of fit in the fresh/clean/citrus family.

Any recs?

you can have a "signature scent" and still have options around it

i have one fragrance i wear most frequently, that i think most of the people i'm with associate with me, and then a couple others when i feel like changing it up (and thinking about fragrances seasonally/social context is very important so as not the overwhelm others, e.g., with a heavy tobacco and leather scent in the summer; as big a faux pas, if not bigger, as overapplying imo)

also, i think you're thinking too much about it, putting too much stock into it, tangling it up with one's identity and all that

Yeah, then the tippity top guys like Heeley, Le Labo and what not aren't really a viable option.

In which case look into things like:

Nautica Voyage
Davidoff - Cool water
Perry Ellis - 360
Giorgio Armani - Acqua Di Gio

Things like that. Research a lot because blind buying isn't a good idea.

But here's some tips:

Generally avoid the following notes in the Summer:
Tobacco
Leather
Cinnamon
Vanilla
Spices in general

Now, there are rare exceptions, I've smelled good summer fragrances with some of those. But generally avoid them, keep them for cooler seasons like winter. You will seriously make yourself and others nauseous if you had something like a heavy tobacco or something like 'Spicebomb', it's just obnoxious as hell.

Stick to fruity, sweet, aquatic, etc notes.

>> No.9981205

>So, it's that easy? Just smell a bunch and see what I like?
yes. some cheap "beginner" fragrances you'll see recommended a lot for summer are similar to nautica voyage.
>And how do I differentiate between a summer and winter?
summer scents are lighter, less musky, "fresh", etc. something that goes with the heat. think fruits, citrus, "aquatic" scents

winter scents can heavier, sweeter, muskier. la nuit is a winter scent. stuff with amber in it.

this is because the cologne evaporates more quickly when there is more heat, so scent is much stronger in the summer. sweeter scents get cloying, leather scents get disgusting, etc. in winter, you can basically wear whatever without being annoying but it would just feel weird to wear an aquatic cologne if it's snowing outside imo.

if you need some recommendations just say what you're looking for, or what style you usually go for in regards to your outfits. ultimately it's going to come down to what goes well with your body chemistry.

It's all readily available right now. It's just kind of knowing which fragrance goes better with the season. There are also no hard and fast rules really, but some fragrances smell horrible in the summer so be wary of that. If it smells particularly strong or sweet or woody or musky when you sample it, it's probably more of a cooler-temperature fragrance. Anything fresh or clean or otherwise inoffensive will most likely be usable for summertime. Most importantly only buy fragrances that you really like and can see yourself using.

Good luck

I got a sample of it with my last purchase.
The opening is sweet, citrusy, extremely synthetic, it has a bubblegum-like feel to it (it is very common among newer Paco fragrances, both Black XS and 1 million had a similar bubblegum-ish smell, I think it's partly caused by the synthetic nature of the frag).

Despite all this, it's actually quite pleasant at first. I remember constantly sniffing my wrist and thinking that it's really likable, paco or not, although it personally does not fit me at all.

Then a few minutes passed, and the sweetness of it slowly started to get more and more nauseating, to the point where I just had to scrub it off because I could no longer tolerate the smell of it. I tried it again a few days later to the same result (although this time it was only on my skin for about 5 minutes before I just gave up and rushed to the bathroom to wash it off).

I ended up giving it to a friend who actually loves it (he's not into fragrances so that explains). My opinion? Forget it. There are hundreds of better scents for the price, ones that don't make you feel sick after wearing it for 30+ minutes.

Anyone tried this?

I really like it, thinking of getting in in fall.

Bulgari is pretty based. Very affordable good frags.
I have Bulgari Man Extreme, which funnily enough, to me smells like a better version of He Wood.
