Nope, works.

It's a bit dusty as hell, but it is a submariner and should just clean off fine. But yeah, I've seen it a lot around, and he's let me wear it before, it's very smooth, bezel works fine, clasp is great, etc. Of course it's not really a brand new one, but it's pretty much all good barring the dusty factor.

What is the most functional watch possible?

Something where if you were in the most rugged terrains be it extremely hot deserts, wet forests, cold ass regions of Alaska, etc. I'm not really looking for "aesthetics" I'm all about function. Because when I hike out in these regions, I don't exactly have a very wide array of tools I can bring with me. I've got a back pack, a coat (depending on the region), some pants, survival boots, and necklaces which have useful stuff like knives and such. So I need something compact as hell, think the swiss army knife of watches. I don't mind spending a bit of cash, I doubt many luxury watches are really useful for what I have in mind anyways but yeah, if a $1,500 watch is going to last me for decades and decades and be compact/useful then that's $1,500 I'll easily shell out.

Not that I absolutely need ALL of these but here's an idea of some functions/features I would find useful: Compass, Waterproof as possible, thermometer, altimeter, barometers, ANYTHING really. Also, I've seen quite an array of useful bands which have things like compasses on them, but realistically speaking durability reigns supreme over a less durable watch with a simple feature. Once again, please note the areas I go to are very rough, are very different in many cases. So high resistances to water/snow, falling damage, temperature changes, etc are very, very vital to the watch I desire.

Thank you to anyone who gives me a little bit of input. I look forward to hearing any input (Real quick reminder, if it has the day then that's excellent, I like to log what I hear/see/find out there, and like quick access to the day/hour/minute/seconds)

You're asking for a lot of watch for a relatively low price. A good watch that you can go exploring with and will last you the rest of your life will be more expensive.

Some you should consider:
>rolex submariner
Classic timepiece that is versatile and goes with anything. It's a strong, durable dive watch. Everyone knows it's a rolex.
>rolex explorer or explorer II
Less ostentatious rolex but fulfills the same purposes. The explorer series was designed for cave exploration.
>omega speedmaster
Durable and stylish. Comes in a few bezel colors and the bracelet is very nice. Less expensive than a rolex too.
>seiko
Seiko makes a lot of decent watches, and I think a dive watch, so something to consider. Dive watches are generally good outdoor watches in general

$1,500 was an example. As I said, if it lasts me a life time, I'll spend way more, but I wouldn't go out and buy a patek philippe or something because that's verging on removing way, way too much of my money.

I like a lot of the watches you mentioned, but...I just don't see much to them. The submariner is beautiful, I like how it has a day wheel on it which is great, as I said I log what I see/do a lot, and when I'm out there for days or even over a week you lose track of days and it's vital I get the day wheel. The explorer and explorer II are on the same boat, the explorer seems to ONLY be able to tell time, but the explorer II seems supreme due to the additional hand and day wheel. Omega speedmaster is also on the same boat, it can tell time. That's fine, I need to be able to tell time but they really lack functions, simple chronographs really don't interest me that much. I'm not really timing anything out there.

G-Shocks seem fine, but there's so many that I find it difficult to discern which to pick, and a lot of people here seem to be really into watches so I figured some individuals might have a bit of a better scope on what could or couldn't work.

I'm still incredibly thankful for your feedback, I would likely look into something like the submariner down the line, but for now I'm just really looking for, as I said, "the swiss army knife of watches".

Much appreciated to your help and to the help of anyone else who gives me feedback/suggestions/ideas!

>> No.9944514

Glad to help. Just know that it may be difficult to find a watch with all the spec you want. The explorer II actually has a GMT hand as well (just so you know) that would be useful when you're away from home.
Maybe a digital would be your way to go. It has the most functions but digitals seem to be disposable to me.

And definitely don't go wearing a patek exploring, lol

>> No.9944558

>>9944514
Of course, as I said, I'm not looking for any specific "I want this ONLY!" it's just kind of an example. The more functions the better, I don't mind being digital. I know the batteries can last a very long time.

I'm not doing any patek wearing whilst exploring, trust me. I would rather spend the money on charity than wear a top notch luxury watch in some of the conditions I've been in. Trust me, I could go on for hours the absolutely brutal conditions, but I digress.

If you think you or if anyone else has any digital watch suggestions that you personally think would be great, please let me know and I'll research more about any suggestions! Thanks!

I'm trying to pick out a smaller link watch for casual wear and don't know what the fuck to buy. This parnis is probably the best I can find on the low end of things, but I wouldn't mind spending quite a bit more for something I fall in love with.

Alternatives im cinsidering currently are orient, seiko, parnis divers as well butI usually just wear new standards with boots and button up or sneakers and a t so I don't know if the bezel on those watches will stand out too much. Just looking for a relatively boring black face watch.

Any advice? Pic related can also come with parnis branding on the face, with a bit more color.

Really? I'm kinda curious if the modern generation is willing to pay for watches to that degree. I don't dispute that there will always be watch aficionados, but I do wonder if the consumer base hasn't dropped precipitously.

By way of example: most people who run in white collar circles no longer wear expensive watches - except for people who started in the 80s. My understanding is that 80s professional culture was all about dick-wagging with expensive watches, whereas nowadays that is no longer the case. Kinda assumed that might have hurt the industry a bit.

Put one G-shock on both of your wrists if you want to cover the human error of losing your watch. All military including special forces and who knows what deep behind enemy lines combat jungle patrol seal 9000s use G-shocks instead of mechanical or analog quartz watches. Mainly because they last for 10 years, never break, always stay on time, are cheap and are available on every military PX and corner store around the world.
Just take a G-shock and I highly doubt your adventures are so rugged and extreme, half of your post is just mental masturbation lol.

The two watches idea sounds really good actually, good allow for either 2 watches of the same variant in case of, as you said, I lose one then I still have the other. Or it could allow for two different watches which can cover as many bases as possible.

And you might be slightly correct on the "mental masturbation", not all terrains are "rugged and extreme" but it depends. Like for example most of the time I usually stay in my state and just travel around, we have remote mountains in my parts which I usually hike alone and there is risk of getting lost, risk of very dangerous animals, etc. A lot of the more 'extreme' environments are more or less special occasions. I went on a cruise to Alaska (which is mind blowingly beautiful, you should look into it some day if possible.) in which I hiked out in the remote woods there once again, by myself. And that was pretty brutal, the temperatures were incredible and whilst fortunately I did not get any close encounters with any dangerous animals I got to see some from a distance which is fine for me. I've been to places like fairly great conditions in the U.S such as remote deserts (once again, these places are so beautiful yet so deadly), Appalachian mountains, Florida everglades, all the way to areas in Canada, Australia, England, Philippines, etc. (Usually go to places like deserts and swamps with somebody else, get stuck there and you are out of luck.) But once again those are 'special occasions' and so I don't regularly go on those so I have to wait a while to save up. But I digress.

Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it.

also, it looks gorgeous on a blue leather strap.

Electronics can never be real luxury. They tried that with the Virtu, or whatever they are phones and every year some ferrari or lambo trademark license owner tries to put out a souped up android phone. They are forgotten in months and outdate too quickly to be ever on par with real luxury watches, etc.
Rolexes, etc keep their value forever, plastic apple watch is in the recycle bin next year and become obsolete with updated models, software, etc.

Idea of paying thousands for iwatch is ridiculous, even the bazillion dollar mechanical watches are legit compared to that. There is nothing to redeem the price asked as they are plastic pieces of shit made by little asian children.

One of the things about owning watches, specifically notable luxury watches (Rolex, pretty much. The average person doesn't know or has very little knowledge on what the fuck a Ulysse Nardin, Patek Philippe, etc is.) is that you will have to deal with the fact that unless you dress the part, a lot of people will automatically assume fake.

I've been wearing Rolexes since I was 16, and when I was in those young years, I could show people EVERYTHING. The box, tags, receipt, etc. They would still think it's fake simply because I was so young.

I think we can often forget how tiny watches are, so to most people when they see "Rolex" all they see is "Something only rich people buy for something so small" so there's this instant "Fake as fuck" vibe unless, as I said, you look the part.

You will have to deal with it, if you care that much about whether people think your watch is fake or not you need to understand that your Rolex should probably rather be sold, buy a cheaper but very slick looking watch and spend the cash on other stuff.

They don't know that a SS Sub second-hand minty minty can be had for only a few grand, either.

How would a grey strap with a silver watch go?

Would the strap technically being cloth throw the rest of it off? Would you have to match clothes to it, or treat it as a normal stainless/silver watch?

Poorfag looking to buy a first watch, looked at some websites and most watches I've founded under 100 euros looked pretty tacky, but I kinda like those Timex watches (Easy Reader models), under 60 euros. I have no knowledge of watches but just wanted something simple and classic to start with, would appreciate some feedback, opinions or other recs, I'm leaning towards the one on the right. What does /watch/ think? Do they look too cheap or decent to people who know watches?

Also my wrists are quite thin, the one on the right is 35mm, that should be suited to thin wrists, right? I'm think the one on the left (42mm) might be too big for me and look silly on me.

Now in feel kinda bad for outing you but now I gotta tell you why I guess. Sorry.

Truth is I have one too :^) in stainless steel of course.

The problem with gold reps is that unless you treat them extremely carefully the gold WILL wear, especially on the crown and inside the clasp. And a stainless crown on a gold watch is an instant tell.

It is a very nice nice well built watch though. From normal viewing distance and up to maybe a few feet away it will look gen assuming the person knows jack shit about watches. To the average person it may as well cost 40k. The only reason I could tell it was a rep is because I own the same rep and the fact that it was a close up shot.

When we're in the rep game, we often forget that nobody is going to really notice that the caseback is 1.5 mm thicker than the gen, or that there isn't as much AR as you'd like. (I wear mine very loosely with a bracelet on the same wrist which makes it appear thinner too.)

I'd look into Timex's Weekender line, which come in a large variety of styles and are also solid, reliable watches in the poorfag pricepoint. to people who know watches, those models are seen as a cheap watch with ZERO prestige, but accepted as legitimate in terms of being a solid and reliable value; worth the money as opposed to fashion brands that are similar or worse quality-wise yet cost far more because they are branded Emporio Armani or DW or whatever.
