Genuine question: why is /fa/ so nuts for these meme shoes? They're not entirely horrible but I fail to see anything interesting about them.

hi op, i think i can answer your question. the only reasons trendy /fa/ sheep latch onto these basic as fuck shoes is that 1. theyre ridiculously expensive, so they must be amazing right?; 2. someone famous was photographed wearing them, so therefore theyre cool; 3. theyre made in italy so therefore they are amazing. thats basically the logic of people who like these, op.

i own a pair, and i can tell you that there is nothing remarkable about these shoes, the leather is decent, but not amazing. they arent particularly comfortable, nor is the design or craftsmanship anything special. essentially you are paying $450 for a name and a gold label on the side.

Yeah, right.

At any rate, /fa/ has this interesting common personality. Typical "effay" drone wants to be validated and viewed as cool by his peers but is also absolutely terrified of being offensive in a slightest way. Hence all those monochrome "minimalistic" fits that are composed of the most basic but costly designer pieces you guys drool over. When drones are confronted by valid criticism they immediately start throwing around bullshit about subtlety, minimalism (this word gets thrown around way, way too much) and superior quality with absoultely unbearable holier than thou "lol u poor" attitude (as if their dads money actually give them the credibility to do that). But in the end those monochrome cp wearing, 300$ plain black t-shirts/jeans ladden zombies have no taste (endlessly circlejerking each other in this "no colour, girls or socially adjusted people allowed" homosexual hugbox echochamber instead) and are too chickenshit to actually try to stand out.

subtle != completely unremarkable. The effect of the subtle flex is to put an impression in the mind of the viewer without them being consciously aware of where it's coming from.

Not all situations call for loud ass flex. Knowing when and why is the difference between between being a manchild and a functioning adult.

>> No.9937693

Nice mental gymnastics there. This subtle flex you're banging on about exists only in your head. If you engage in a conversation or any social activity per se with people unaware of cp's and memeochrome in general they won't even think twice about your precious nondescript white sneakers. While you will be all like, "yeah, I totally flexed on those guys, that'll show them". Seriously, if you think you're impressing someone (subtle, unsubtle way, whatever) with those shoes you are delusional. Unless they are likeminded fashion victims.

so background on people who say common projects are quality

usually poorer upbringing

used to vans or other vulcanized rubber soles

have never seen a leather insole

so when you make high end shoes with a good year welt and a cork midsole that you "break" in you usally seal it with a leather insole

/fa/ doesn't know that

they were just told leather insole is USUALLY a sin of quality construction

so an enterprising young black and asian man comes along and decides to MARKET a cupsole sneaker as "handstiched"

since 99.9% of people "into fashion" suffer from group thinking and the telephone game

they assume that any cup soled sneaker with a stiched upper means it must be a good year welt or possess the same qualities of a good year welted shoe

in reality cup soled sneakers are a cheaper and easier way to attach a third party non-custom specification order of a sneaker sole

it's just a standard outsole, standard upper with no felt lining (rip the lining and foam off of nikes the backside of the upper feels like the inside of common projects

and a glued insole (pour boiling water into your common projects that cheap leather insole will lift right off of the mid

"minimalist", perhaps
it's just a basic shoe, "minimalistic" is not a fucking word

most people on /fa/ have it in their head that minimalism as a school of thought relates to stuff like a white t-shirt, black jeans, white shoes etc
couldn't be further from the truth

That's kinda how I see it yeah, it also helps that white sneaker works so well with most fits and when you pair that with a good build quality you get a sneaker that you will simply get fuckton of use out of and so I can see the appeal of them.
But that's just me, I don't even own CPs and I don't even particularly want a pair.

So?

Since when does that factor in?

You're not taking into account bulk costs.

The reason why they can make it "so cheap" is that if they are smart and have the right funding they will bulk buy the marterials that allow them to lower the cost price.
Let me tell you, NO WHERE are you going to buying something at cost price. Not only do you need to factor in labor, but you need to factor in logistics (getting item from A to B), taxes, predicted loss (they know some shoes will enivitably be "lost" or stolen, this is factored into the price and weighted on every shoe so they don't take THAT much of a hit from several thousand stolen shoes), and then simply the markup for the brand name.
So it's fucking stupid to argue "well it only cost X to make why would you buy it at 2x?" for all the reasons listened.

also compared to mainstream retail that is CRAZY expensive. I saw a cost price list for Ray Bans once. It literally costs them $4-8 to make the sunglasses, once you factor everything else in though they are $140.
If you don't understand production business models and logistics then don't even argue "it only costs $X to make"
