The vintage 34mm ones are the cheapest Rolexes you can buy.
Incidentally, the current Oyster Perpetual (ref 116000) lineup is the cheapest and more diverse than most others.
They come in 4 or 5 sizes and multiple dial designs and colours at that.
Modern Air Kings look somewhere between clownish and depressingly bad, pic related.
Neither are nearly as iconic as the other models.
Buy it for the design, not the brand and you're good.

If you just want the cheapest possible watch that says Rolex, either buy a replica or a heavily used datejust - a few hundred more expensive the vintage airkings and whatnot but considerably more recognisable.

Moderately simple; they don't make replicas of it.
You might confuse a speedy rep for a second gen one (which I find a lot more attractive, but it's also 4/3rds the price of a gen 1 reduced, if not more). But in general speedy reps are easily recognisable.
Due to movement restrictions only the 44mm ones look even close to the real ones.

I had only seen the newer Celinis and admit my mistake.
Why would anyone buy those though?
There's so many much nicer looking dress watches for the same money although I guess Swiss independent tends to cost more. And if it's buying for the brand a DJ seems a lot more fitting.

Reposting from the /g/ thread, as an anon told me theres a guy with an Imperial that sometimes posts here.

Im really digging that Celadon Imperial chinkwatch, but I think I got hooked on pretty marketing. Are they actually as good of a craftmanship achivement as they claim, and the price is just so low because the chinese goberment subsidizing the craftsmen services + selling at a loss to create a following, or its just fancy looks and shitty quality?

Also, is the peacock dial too much? I love it but I dont know if its too queer for someone that isnt a geisha in feudal japan.

Learn to wear it.

I can never get over the name omega, say what you say but I think that omega sucks and they just try to artificially build a legacy with their multibillion james bond product placements and rising prices every year.
But after all every brand does this.

In my eyes omega is just a pleb watch for the average "hey i got a bonus at my average job" joe.

What do you mean by "learn to wear it"? If you refer to how the watch sits on my wrist, it's about perfect atm, as the thinnest part of my wrist is pretty high up the forearm.
I've always been a massive fan of Omega. Sure, the James Bond thing is a bit funny, but other than that I always thought their built quality and designs were top-notch for the price. We'll see what will happen now that they try to move up-market with the increasingly high pricing.

With rolex homages you either get the cheap fun watch or just buy the real deal. Paying over 100 bucks for 1:1 copy for except maybe the dial is nuts. Better off buying "a real watch" with it's on thing going on is better in that case.

Maybe with submariners it's no biggie as it is the most copied watch ever.

>I ended up paying just over $500 after shipping.

why?

not tryin to be a dick, but i don't see $500 worth of watch there

just a lower tier ETA movement with average off shelf stainless case and a stainless band that you probably need to replace with a nicer NATO to get that watch looking half decent

also why are they charging value added taxes to americans?

>> No.9938388

>>9938359
>without VAT
They're not charging it, that's $500 with shipping and exchanging to USD. There's an exchange rate, you know.

I think it's worth it, by all accounts it's a very nice looking well made watch. The movement is ETA elabore grade and it does have a small complication with the GMT hand. I'm under the impression that the bracelet is pretty solid too. I guess I'll know for sure when it gets here.

Omega might not be as expensive and exclusive as, say: Rolex, Blancpain, IWC or Patek, but it is an old brand with a lot of tradition. the problem is - many exclusive brands these days dilute their exclusivity by accepting compromises and becoming more mainstream - like Rolex which started going for machine production and e.g. in my place is the most recognizable cliche luxury item you can think of. it's the same type of luxury as Louis Vuitton luggage - too many fakes, too many cliches, too many morons buying them - regardless of authenticity. that's a shame really

I personally own 3 Omegas that were bought new in my family - a 1930s pocket watch, a women's manual wind wristwatch (1950s?) and a gentlemen's 2506-2 from 1948 - stainless steel, enamel dial, golden hands. The last one is in pretty decent condition, the first two require major renovation after many decades of not being used. the quality of the 2506-2 is really good and all it requires is some maintenance every 4 years which is pretty impressive for a nearly 70-year old watch. in my view - that's already legacy
