I'm curious as to how many people who use /fa/ genuinely follow fashion, watch collection releases, keep up to date with designers etc.

Seems to be a general dress-wear board as of late and not many individuals show interest for collections and such which is a shame.

So /fa/, who is your favourite designer and why?

How to more into fashion? What blogs should I visit?

Visiting sites such as style.com once a week to just get a quick update on anything which has happened could be an easy thing to intergrate into your life. Just try and expose yourself to designers and such a bit more, google any you have an interest in, find out a bit about them etc.

It's all a slow process but if you're genuinely interested, it'll open your eyes to a lot.

Which brands are you talking about specifically? If you're not a fan of high fashion, what do you prefer instead?

>> No.9914869

I don't follow anything, I just let my inner feeling decide if I like the look. Moreover, I don't have so much money so I rarely buy clothes. I think I have a feeling for style that I like, but I rarely wear something I like in public, I prefer normcore.
My fav designer is Rei Kawakubo.

>>9914869
If money was no option to you, do you think you're prefer to wear CDG and such each day rather than normcore?

I know a lot of brands can be quite costly for the majority but I'm always curious as to whether people would prefer dressing in nice clothes 24/7, or if they'd just being able to just throw on whatever.

Honestly, I'm interested in fashion but don't know how to get into it really. I'll start by looking into designers i like & learn about them

I'm in the same boat.
I'm (for once in my life) actually putting serious time and effort into learning more on the subject, but I dont really know where to start or have a framework so it feels very innefficient.

Its hard to find/learn what you want when you dont know what your looking for.

Watching shows and reading magazines is nice, but nothing beats going out and trying things on. Touching something, wearing something is an irreplaceable experience and no amount of online browsing will compare.

I do, sometimes it's hard to keep up but at a minimum I have a look at the seasonal collections of my favorites

Personal favorite is second from the left

>> No.9916070

I go in and out of actively following fashion as an overall field - like, paying attention to what randoms did at Paris this season - but I definitely keep up to date with designers I'm fans of. Same thing as with most mediums.

Single favorite designer is hard/impossible for me, but a list in no order would go something ike: Cristobal Balenciaga, Miuccia Prada, Jun Takahashi, Errolson Hugh, Martin Margiela.

Why for each I might write up later.

>>9915735
Yep. Fashion is an experiential medium, like architecture.

Studying up on history and attached cultural phenomena is also really rewarding.

>> No.9916076

I keep up to date with collections, business side and magazines but /fa/ isn't really a platform to talk about that type of stuff.

All the clothes you buy are influenced by high fashion :----)

>This stuff’? Oh, ok. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don’t know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean. You’re also blindly unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasn’t it, who showed cerulean military jackets? And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic “casual corner” where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.”

It can be, though! And it has been.

The only reason it's not is because people like you and me sigh at the bullshit here and close the tab instead of writing something.

There are better forums (thefashionspot for example) to talk about those things, with people who are far more knowledgable on the subject. I will contribute to a high fashion thread whenever one pops up but It's not like I need it to be here.

For the business side, WWD is probably the best. There's a paywall, but it's worth subscribing to if you really care about what's happening in the industry.

Occasionally NYT or WSJ will cover fashion news but getting past their paywalls is easier.

To me fashion is mostly about the stories designers tell so I spend a lot of time looking at designers.

My favourite designer as an overall person right now is Pierre Cardin, super obvious as far as fashion history is concerned but the guy really speaks to me personally because I think very similarly to him in regard to creative drive and eclecticism.

Other than that my most dedicated following is to Jun Takahashi because Undercover speaks to my music loving sensibilities and I always think they're having so much fun with clothing. Also basically anyone who invokes to a futurist aesthetic i'm fully behind
