I'm joining the US Coast Guard soon, and I'll be needing a new watch that has to fit an annoying specific criteria. It was recommended that I buy a G-Shock, but goddamn I hate everything digital when it comes to watches, I don't know why. It needs to be black(face can be dark grey), be suitable for occasional submersion in water for swimming(I'm not a diver, so it'll never see depths more than 10 feet or so), and preferably be made out of stainless steel so I don't have to worry about rust or degradation. Any suggestions in the <$200usd price range?

Other than the fact that I like them, I'm not terribly knowledgeable about watches, so I figure you guys would be able to push me in the right direction.

Okay /fa/ you might make fun of me but I don't care anymore. I want to find jeans that actually fit me. The problem is that I'm short, 5´5. All the jeans I've bought have always been to long and to wide. Just bought a pair of jeans from Peter manning NYC that claims to fit perfect for short guys, but they didn't. Where can I find jeans that will fit me?

I don't want to spend money on those fashion blogs because I think it will still be useless.

Question for "I'MDL,Y"

Dear Lawyer,
I like the look of blue hands on a nice watch, with blue markers even more (it's a little weird, I know). With that in mind, which watch from $3,500 to $62,000 would you pick with this set up for dial/hands? Also, what do you think of the Breguet Marine, Cartier du Cle, Omega deville white gold or platinum or a platinum Rolex Day Date 40 (the new one)?
Durability would be nice, but whatever the lawyer picks I will look closely at, thanks.

By now I actually own two PAMS;

The first, that have been posted here before is my PAM161, a 44mm Luminor GMT wich has the original Panerai out-of-production bracelet, with semicircular titanium and steel links, wich I love although I don't use very often, as I rather have it on colorful straps like >pic related and

My PAM292 with piggy dial, wich, If I'm honest, I rarely use since almost from the beggining I discovered the ceramic case is extremely vulnerable to cracking if hited in the right (or wrong, whatever) angle and I'm afraid to break it into oblivion. I think it hasn't been out of the vault for more than six months. ;_;

That seems to me like a black faced Leman Triple Date Moonphase in steel.
It's a nice watch overall with a useful complication in an elegant 38mm case.

A well preserved example of that reference goes for about 3600 to 3900 USD with a practically LNIB hiting the 4k mark. A more banged one should sell for about 3.2k.
In any case, you should try to buy a complete example (box, papers, pouch, warranty, even if not valida anymore) like pic related or ask for a considerable reduction in the price if there isn't any of the formers.

The interesting thing here is that, apparently, the black dial in steel is a bit rare so that's a plus, although it shouldn't increase the price by more than a couple of hundreds.

An Air-King Precision. Why? Because he is probably going to fuck it a little, even if he acts responsable for his age so repairing it/finding parts should be a taken into account. He is probably underdevelopped yet so a big watch will look ridiculous and become obstrusive of wrist and hand movement.
>Who would'nt want a watch like pic related?
If it turns out he really likes watches, let him work to earn himself a more coveted reference, let him become a man.
HOWEVER, you should also measure if this will actually make him good in the long term. Having a luxury item like a Rolex at such a young age can seriously mess with perception of reality and put your nephew in a race to become a douchebag who thinks he is better than others simply cause he has a shinny piece of metal in the wrist.
Also, that watch (by simply saying Rolex) is going to be a pussy magnet among impressionable girls and that does come with risks. You woun't want to be a grand-uncle so soon, would you?
If you must gift it, you then must seat with your nephew and explain him some ground rules, wichever you find suitable for his benefit.

Thanks so much!

1. I work in medicine--a private practice. Think nice business casual with a lab coat over. I want to look nice without being super showy, which is why many of my choices are SS and platinum.
2. I'm active enough. I like the idea of a durable watch that won't break if I get it wet. I'm leaning toward bracelets on watches, just because a sweaty August day in NYC isn't great for alligator. Anyway, this would be a milestone sort of watch to cap my small collection. The blue hands, blue markers just seems to be a way to limit and organize my search, plus I love the look.
3. I have a JLC MUT Moon in SS as a dress watch, which I love and a Datejust II with a rhodium face and smooth bezel, which I also like a lot, it feels super durable, hence the new date date 40 in blue roman markers and a new calibre being on my list.

I would only wear my watch when I go out on weekends since I'm an 18 year that works fast food 30 hours a week.

What harm would a fake watch do me? My grandfather collects them and he has about twenty, so what should I look out for? I'd avoid a rolex since that screams fake for an 18 year old, but I usually dress well and live comfortable (household income $250k+/y).

I'm heading to Singapore in four days, would it be a better investment to buy a genuine watch from duty free on the way? Or one from a street store there? What should I do watch general?

Or get a tudor black bay replica since it's great quality for its price, looks great and is not some unbelivably expensive, well known brand like Rolex or Omega.
Unless you find a unaffordable gen watch that you really like the design of and want it for that reason rather than to flaunt it there's little point in getting a rep and plenty of good enough watches within most budgets that aren't reps.

50 years ago a 38mm would be on the big side, and at the start of century many popular watches were under 30mm

As for your question, don't have one watch that does it all.
Get a sports watch and a dress watch. Might seem superflous in this day and age, and yes, Bibi wears his PAM048 with a suit. You're not him and the only Master Compressor I've seen that doesn't look like shit is the 2068570.
Pam048/49 on a 4k budget will be rather hard looking at Chrono24.

Granted, I don't want to look like a complete fool where dress is involved. As far as style goes, I need much more help in overall clothing and outfits than watches. Okay, I'm on this.

The first thing is to never buy a watch with a mineral glass crystal again.

You can order diamond polishing stuff from amazon, get a set with 1-5u size diamond grit goo flavor pack.

Then, put some on an earwab and rub with a bit of pressure on the scratch, making little circles and not marring the bezel.

Now, add autism. A small scratch will take about 2.5 hour on the 4or 5u size grit goo. I did it in steps and didn't notice a change, at first, just adding more autism as I went. Finish with a little autism and a smaller grit, say 1u to polish.

The end result is total elimination of a small scratch and net increase on the autism scale.

Buy a watch with a sapphire crystal next time!
