So how many of you actually wear Rick Owens and other designer stuff? I'm thinking of coping some basic pieces.
Post fit

Also people who don't care about buying designer clothes don't even bother posting.

i wear rick owens shoes and boots, i have 3 pairs. id say people get lost in the designer spectrum and with designers as polarizing as rick owens its easy to look like a tool while simultaneously spending a stupid amount of guap.

id say the only thing u really need to spend a lot of money on in outfits is your shoes and outerwear, the rest can easily just be basic pieces from hm, etc. a simple crewneck, hoodie or sweater with black sweats and some ramones / rick boots can be relaxed and laid back while still being fashion forward

really i think people on here blow too much money on pieces that can only be worn one way (denim jackets, graphic t shirts and hoodies, etc) instead of just copping generic basics and having a lot invested in their shoes.

think about it, anyone can spot a pair of rick owens shoes from across the room (anyone from here anyway) but who can tell the difference between a blank margiela crewneck (490$) and a blank hm crewneck, how about a blank hoodie?

luxury basics are just that, luxuries. If u find urself struggling to cop whatever you want whenever you want then focus on the important things first, shoes shoes shoes shoes shoes and more shoes and maybe one nice jacket for really cold days

hope i helped

I'd say there is a stark difference from some basics from RO, than say something you'd find at HM, e.g. double layer tees. I got a jacket and a tee and enjoy wearing both. However I agree people typically comment/compliment shoes or jackets before anything else.

the only reason i emphasize shoes first as much is because everyone who is newer to fashion never has as much money for clothes as they think they do and/or never realizes how expensive these clothes really are and i just dont want someone to end up dropping a lot on maybe 2 nice shirts (could easily be over $400) or a single jacket (bomber, etc could easily be over $400 for rick and similar) which (if they are starting into the fashion world) would be their only high end piece, and there is nothing worse than seeing someone with their one high end piece wearing it every.single.day. I even notice if someone wears the same thing twice in the same week, but shoes are the one area where it's acceptable to wear the same pair multiple times per week, so which are you really getting value out of if you're starting out, for me I think its a no brainer for shoes, not to mention pieces from rick, mmm, plokhov and similar are just hard to pull off without being initiated to how to successfully wear the brand and showing up on campus decked in drapey cloth just doesn't feel as comfortable as it looks on tumblr, but really whatever makes you happy and you feel good wearing is all that matters as long as its not fur thats just gross

The only real sales you can find in the US are online sales. Grailed, eBay, and the aforementioned sites are your best bet, but again it's more about keeping a watchful eye and picking up the good pieces as soon as they show up on those sites because the good stuff is usually gone, there is a reason those pieces are on sale, which is usually they are a few seasons old and just need to make room for newer stuff so typically the only stuff left is weird sizes and the pieces nobody wanted, but occasionally there are grails to be had in just the right size if you're fast enough.

considering my liking towards rick (particularly mentioned by OP) and fashion, I've been able to save up (as any of you could) to afford a couple pieces from my favorite designers. however i don't believe everyone here owns 'designer stuff' because you don't really need to be wearing hundred dollar tees to be fashionable or to compose of a good fit. the speculation of /fa/ is that there is somewhat a guided ruleset on what you should wear but imo cutting creativity or hating on someones fit just because its "unlike your style" is just extraneous in the real world of fashion. guys, in the end just remember to follow your heart :^). but srs reconsider your silhouette, functionality, weather, and everything or else you'll look 2 ridic for human standards.

Meant to post this yesterday, I'm definitely not into high-tier designer stuff or avant garde runway stuff. I just use those fits and pictures just as inspiration, it's really just a hobby to look at that stuff.

What I'm really into is mid-tier fashion, i.e. stuff like Norse, A.P.C., Common Projects, Wings+Horns/Reigning Champ, etc. All I'm after are brands that are conscious of clothing quality/construction, sourcing of materials and labour, and focus on details with a little creativity.

I wouldn't call them "designers" similar to high-end clothing makers who use their name, even though clothing stores like to title their brands section as "designers" for appeal.

For that reason I totally wouldn't advocate building a wardrobe with H&M and Rick. Even I spend more on outerwear and plan to spend more on shoes, but you guys should be focusing on every area in my opinion.
