It's a reflection of American culture; the people realize to excel in business or social status, you must walk and talk like everyone else.

It boils down to discomfort.
Think of what most people in America wear as a uniform denoting social or financial class.

Without getting to sociological, it has to do with the effect of capitalism on a barely cultured society.

We're too lazy to be different or express ourselves in any more than one dimension. For example, if painting is your thing, you'll only really express yourself in that way and put everything into painting. Some of us actually give a shit about multiple things, but even then they're half assing a plethora of things rather than giving their 100% at one thing. It's rare to find a good multitasker in America, and it's all due to our laziness. It sucks man

Well they all knew I usually dressed okay but since we all went off to college they didn't know I was into actual fashion stuff. They mainly were just asking where I bought the stuff. About the brands/designers. Of course price came up but I tried to downplay that. They mainly liked my Our Legacy tech jacket. Raf sweaters. Norse Projects sweaters. Acne trousers and jeans. My chelseas and my low and vintage common projects. I was pretty surprised at how interested they were. And these aren't the type of people to laugh behind my back .
