It used to be what made these watches luxury, having a chronometer movement meant they were super accurate and a tachymeter allowed people to accurately judge speed and distance traveled etc.

Swiss watches became so valued as they were the first chronometers and were used by train conductors to ensure efficiency and make sure trains didn't crash and were not on the same rail. Accurate time keeping and understanding of the relative speeds of things was as important then as it is now, only we've replaced good watches with computers.

You're mixing things up. When divers use a watch they use one with a rotating bezel to help keep track of oxygen. Chronographs typically either aren't water resistant when using the pushers underwater or the resistance rating is significantly reduced when using the pushers underwater. Also chronometers are watches that are certified to be much more accurate than other watches. Chronographs are stopwatches.

White is dressier but it's not necessarily a super strict rule. Diver, dress watch, sporty chronograph is a safe combination that'll cover anything. You can wear a diver with almost anything, especially if you swap it between a metal bracelet, cloth straps, and maybe rubber straps depending on what you're wearing. I wouldn't wear most divers with really formal clothes though, that's what dress watches are for and you're not James Bond even if you wear your fucking submariner with your tux. Gold looks best on more tan/dark skin tones and it's sort of out of fashion, but I personally like it and I rock my gold watch all the time.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking about this. Very tempted to just go for it as my current watch is wicked broken now.

Main reason I asked though is that I saw a bunch of people online complain about them breaking. Thing is, most of those complaints are from a few years back, and some other people have said that's not a problem any more. tourbillons are typically associated with high-end, expensive watches. I'm not either of the people you're responding to, but I would think the entire watch look/style leads them to associate it with the fedora-wearing gentlemen, not the tourbillon alone.

because it's easier to see it than the smaller second hand? when you're checking your watch you literally never need to check the seconds, and when you do you do so with the chronograph, and you can even divide every second into five bits, which you would never be able to do on the smaller dial.

I would actually get a smartwatch, if it looked like this but with a prettier latching mechanism and would show text + caller ID.

I disagree, at first I also found it a bit unnerving, but I've learned to appreciate it. I think it works well visually, and I've really learned to enjoy the moments where people are like "hey dude your watch isn't working" and I get to explain them why they might think so, and then we all have a little chuckle and everything is easy.

Just ignore this poster. It's a good looking watch, and it's really hard to find automatic watches that don't look like something out of a golf magazine. It's just got a very niche bad rep to it.
