How many of you guys cut your own hair? How hard is it to say just cut or clean up the sides? What about the back?

>> No.9709988

>>9709967
The only part i have to get someone help me out with is the back. its pretty easy to just cut and clean up the sides. Just have to make sure you clean up the hairline and trim around the ears to get all the strays the clippers don't get

I generally fuck my own shit up for that rough cut then go to my girlfriend's place for her to clean it up after I already have the overall scheme done

>> No.9710282

I buzz my head so it's pretty easy. Lining up the back in the mirror takes some practice but you'll get it if you take your time.

Wahl master race checking in.
Hardest part is lining up the back but practice and you'll get better everytime.
If you're a beginner you gotta start with longer guards as to not take noticeable chunks out of hair

Thanks everybody

I consistently cut my hair better than the hairdressers I've been to (scissors not shaving). Just gotta do it a little at a time and know when to stop, also going in with a plan/style that you want is advisable.

i know my hair really well (lmao) and i cut my layers how i really like them. I go to the barber to clean up the sides and get the sick fades, i tell them to stay away from the top. i have a good relationship with this one barber and he charges me $5 shave and has told me the top is cut well, which is wicked

I've been cutting my own hair since i was 15. You'll get better with practice you just gotta not worry too much about fucking things up.
what i usually do is separate the top from the sides while my hair is still wet using a comb. Then i start by cutting the top with scissors by just sort of grabbing chunks between my fingers using a comb like barbers do. It's important to do this at the front and not try to cut you're bangs as they are laying straight down if you have straight hair, unless you're going for a bowl. Then i use the clippers on the side, long length at first then getting shorter and doing upwards and outwards motions as you get lower. back is always hard, but you just gotta have balls and try to go on feel and always always have someone look at it before you go outside. the slanted edge trimmer things that come with clippers are great. use them.
This basic technique will get you pretty far just vary the lengths to taste. If youre going for a really clean cut look plz go to barber but i got through the hitler youth days of yesteryear with much compliments just fine.

I go to a hairdresser maybe once every six months, and when I do, I really watch what they do and learn from them.

As other anons have said, the only bit that's really difficult is the back, but it is doable: I usually set up two mirrors facing each other so that I can see the back of my head. I practise with the clippers turned off so I can get used to navigating my head using the mirror.

>> No.9712204

i cut my own hair with proper broad fades and scissor work and all that
i'm super meticulous about it
to cut hair from back i hold one mirror with my arm and do the magic
people think i go to the barber kek

Cutting your own hair is a bad idea, it's harder then you think to do on your self, get a friend or someones girlfriend that does hairdressing to cut it. Also why not just pay for one? A cut from a barber costs about the same as a packet of cigarettes

>> No.9712240

>>9712222
cutting your own hair is a skill that takes practice like any other.

after the first three or four self-cuts you'll have enough of a grasp on it to be presentable in public, and you only get better at it from there.

I've been cutting my own hair for years OP. There will be some trial and error, but after a while you can get good at it (even on the back). If you're interested in trying then just take your time, measure twice cut once, and don't press too hard. I use Wahl clippers btw. Best of luck

as for advice, just practise, the back is a little tricky but you're gonna get the hang of it after a few cuts

you just have to be confident with the clippers in your hand. you may fuck up but who cares, hair grows back. I've been cutting my hair for a year and Ive gotten to the point where I can even do the back evenly and effeciently. it look a while but i always learn new ways to approach my hair.

i use a hand mirror and the wall mirror and that alone can help so you any angle you'd possibly want to see. just takes some practice OP

luckily my moms been a hairstylist for over 15yrs so naturally i picked up on some basic things about how to cut and style hair, so when i finally decided to cut my own hair it came out bretty good
also styling with some product will fix ANY fuck up so it will become your best friend when cutting your own hair

I just gave myself this haircut, I don't think I fucked up that much.
I usually wash my hair and dry it with a towel (to prevent the strands from sticking), then I comb them upward with my fingers and start buzzing them from the bottom (all back and sides) with a 9mm guard. I decide where to stop cutting and kinda draw a line around my head (below this line it's all 9mm). Then I move to 12mm and cut a bit more above, same with a 15mm and 18mm.
I trim a bit the bottom with a 6 and 3mm.
For the top I go from 21mm to 30mm (I leave the fringe longer).
Then, if my mom doesn't say anything bad, it means it's acceptable.
I saved a lot of money since I started cutting my hair, just take small steps
