why did we need any part of that scene? that entire scene could have been wiped out with no survivors and the movie wouldn't have suffered anything.

it's just like a flashy "hook" at the beginning of the essay. they were trying to start the movie en medias res, which means in the middle of the action. this is designed to draw the viewers directly into the plot and hold their attention. but, since none of that entire scene effected the plot like at all, it falls flat and belies its true purpose: some writer got super wet for this scene, which this writer protected like a baby. its only purpose is as writerly and special effects masturbation, and to show that bane is a super cool evil genius villain because he can beat up cilian murphy's dad
