Yeah, instructions from the artists vary wildly. I mean, the guy up there couldn't even get a straight answer on how to put cream on it.

I talked to loadsa artists through email and shit, cause yahoo answers didn't really cut it for my pedantic me, and just went with the safest recommendation.
Like the anon said, do the first period perfectly and you'll be guaranteed happy with a perfect tattoo for the rest of your life. It's worth it.

I'd say it sucks more getting them on your hand. I have a tattoo that was on my chest and it went on to my ribs and that didn't feel too great, but the tattoo I have on my hand was by far the most painful tat I've ever gotten. It was 6 minutes of genuine discomfort.

That being said, getting tattoos doesn't hurt as bad as everyone says it does. If you genuinely want a tattoo, you won't care about the pain.

Well, 6 minutes is nothing, mine took almost 3 hours. Sensations were ranging from minor discomfort to geniune pain echoing through the half of the ribcage. So I would say ribs hurt more than fingers cause of area's size.

This. Got the inside of my forearm done, and after the first 2-3 minutes it just felt like really hot vibration.
Going over the sinews down at the inside of your wrist hurt like fuck on the other hand. Y'know, those visible if you flex your hand inwards.
The guy tattooing me was one of those allover guys, and he shared with me that tattooing your forehead is apparently the worst.

It's just a word across the back of my hand. It was given to me when I was deployed so I didn't exactly have a trained professional doing it to me. He just had a tattoo gun he built and some india ink, and since we spent roughly 80% of our time getting mortared and having potshots taken at us, free time was a short luxury.

Serious flowing of the ink and discoloration is absolutely a possibility bro. If you have fine line work then expect to be royally disappointed with what you've done.

Worst case scenario is infections though. Some go away pretty painlessly without any damages, but sometimes it can apparently fuck EVERYTHING up, basically leaving you with an ink filled scar-looking area.

It's actually a fairly boring story that I'm sure is not isolated at all. We came back from the first patrol where we'd ever had contact, some kills got confirmed, and my team leader all gave us "war tattoos" as celebration. Out of all of us I was the most "bookish", so he gave me an "+VLFBERH+T" on the back of my weapon hand (the hand I used to pull the trigger for my rifle)
