Generally a large amount of synthetics like polyester and acrylic are frowned upon because they're lower quality and cheaper to use. It's not black and white though, a lot of designers use these same synthetics to really good effect to do things like preserve the shape of the garment (ie comme des garcons uses polyester really heavily in some of their clothes)
