It's not so much that i'm on a budget, because even a $60 bottle of perfume lasts me like half a year of heavy use. It's more-so I refuse to spend big dollars on a bottle of perfume that has been inflated in price because ITS CALVEN KLAIN and I personally can't smell the difference between a nice $20 bottle and a nice $60 bottle.

Hey, at least you would be another enthusiastic person helping others with fragrances. That's a lot better than the alternative.

Recently I went into an Hermes store, and started inquiring about their collection; and, even without sperging out, and keeping my questions relatively simple (like "is this an EDP or EDT"), and the stupid bitch that worked their was completely clueless, yet had the attitude that she knew every nuance about their fragrance collection. I swear, Hermes employs some of the dumbest, yet most arrogant people on the planet.

If you can do better than that, you're doing an amazing job.

not sure what you mean. eau de parfum designates a certain concentration of the fragrance, ranges from 15-20%. eau de toilette is generally from 5-15%. although EdP is more concentrated, it is usually also proportionally more expensive than its EdT version.

there are weird exceptions. sometimes the EdP is a bit of a different formulation, in terms of notes, from the EdT. sometimes the EdT has more projection and sillage than the EdP. as a general rule the EdP is more powerful, but be sure to read reviews before making a choice.

Encre noire is very good. Compare it with to more classic stuff like Guerlain Vetiver, Givenchy Vetyver, etc.

I also recommend, in a different style for the winter:

- "L'Art et la matière" collection by Guerlain
- Creed fragrances (Aventus being a favorite)
- Chanel Égoïste (not Platinum)
- Boucheron Jaïpur EDP
- Dior Homme Parfum (not especially rare, but very good anyway)

- Serge Lutens Muscs Koublaï Khän

This can't be a factor. EDPs and EDTs of the same line almost always smell different enough that you would treat them as two different scents. So those other things you ask about are secondary.

A 100ml bottle of anything will last you about 5-10 years if you spray 1-2 times daily (and spraying more than that is a bad choice). If you're on/off about using it then it will pretty much last forever.

That actually has a name: petrichor. And it's basically a result of plant oils that have been absorbed by soil that volatilizes after rain. Demeter is a kooky company that does all these random "one scent" products and they actually make one called Dirt that tries to simulate that. It's really a novelty and it doesn't have much complexity or longevity, but it's fun.

Some patchouli-based scents can approximate elements of that mixture and you have woody/green/fresh scents like Diptyque's Philosykos, but that has a pronounced fig/fig leaf element. CB I Hate Perfume has played with various earthy/wet combinations, too.
