also, OP, I love my Dr Marten Saltairs, with a nice set of Superfeet Green insoles. though I used those for actually working, not for fashion.

As for my slightly older pair of 1919s... Ehh, they're alright but I don't know if I'd order them again. At least not for actually wearing them for working. As a fashion boot, though, then maybe, except for the fact that I have giant UK 12 feet, which just exacerbates the clownshoe appearance. The Saltairs look really nice and are moderately slimming, however.(not to mention comfy as fuck)

Bought some 1461 monos for work at the coffee shop i work at and I probably should have just opted for some CPs or some decent quality derbies. The docs aren't horrible to wear after a bit but they're certainly not comfortable. The leather is so shit it may as well be plastic. I'll wear them but idk if it would have been worth investing in some better shoes

boatshoes are normally already pretty soft leather. nothing stiff. you don't really need to break them in, though they do get broken in over time
