I have had a interest in tech focused fashion for quite some time now, begining to build up a wardrobe but struggling to find good pieces at decent prices...Could anyone help me out? Also general tech wear thread

You're never going to build a "tech focused fashion" wardrobe at decent prices. You'll get the aesthetic, but if you don't have good money, "tech wear" will be out of your reach.

>Mountain/Hiking stores (you'll also need to get a few pieces tailored, as they'll normally be too baggy for what you want)

I'm a new biker and I'm interested in a tech style 3M reflective jacket (the white kind). Must be water and wind proof.

Yes, I've already googled and gotten some sources, but I'm interested in seeing some good looking higher fashion pieces besides whatever ugly shit Nike is making (maybe from people who've already done the research). Anyway, looking for good recs.

>> No.9272932

>>9271446
Depends on your definition of "decent prices". If a decent price to you is $500 for an Ten C piece instead of $800+ then you've just gotta be patient and diligent to build a wardrobe. If a decent price to you is $200 or less for a jacket then you've gotta pick a cheaper style or save up, because you'll never get past North Face at a tight budget.

No. They're one of three people doing tees in 17.5 micron merino wool (versus the standard 18.something), their distinguishing thing being that it's the most basic/most similar to a regular cotton tee in style, cut, and function.

Which some people will call best, obvious they will, but definitely not me.

The others are Ibex, which makes relatively straightforward baselayer-style tees in 17.5 fabric, and Kuiu, which also makes baselayer tees.

I haven't handled Kuius, but they seem pretty special. 17.5 blended with some nylon for dry time and durability, a special "Nuyarn" knitting process that supposedly makes it all even stronger and more elastic, perfect weights (125-145-210 gsm) and great features - vents on the 125, chest pockets on the 145 and 210.

Catch is it's a hunting company, so only drabs and bizarre camo. No black.

But also, measuring the goodness of a shirt soley by how fine the fibers in it are is kind of ridiculous.

It seem so subtle I'm not sure the average tailor could get it right.

Bonus points if they're cheap or otherwise not a fashion-y piece; I'm looking for a dress-down, anti-statement piece to ground everyday fits.

I got a hoodie from lululemon that's one of the best I've ever had. Pretty wind and water resistant, hella warm, chest vents, thumb loops, and double zippers. Just picked up one of their 5 year basic shirts, super comfy, wicking, and anti-microbial and shiz. Also have some of their shorts which are pretty legit.

I used to (still do but not as much anymore) do a bunch of rock climbing and backpacking so I've been wearing techwear stuff since it looked like shit. From my experience Marmot is an awesome introductory brand, Mountain Hard Wear is another good choice and they have stuff at a range of price points. Arc Tyrx is god-tier. The only reason you buy something new from them is because you want a different coat or whatever from the one you've had the last 7-10 years.

Gore Tex socks sound a little silly, granted I don't know the conditions they wore it in but wool socks should be more comfortable and functional enough with those boots

Also as with most techwear focused fits I have to wonder how it looks inside, when they take the jacket of. Shells are such a central part of the style that putting together a fit that looks good without one is the real challenge.

I doubt you should expect anything too great without it off, and you probably don't already anyway, most likely consists of warm base layers and possibly a pullover sweater depending on how cold it is, a drapey tee might be thrown in. The photographer seems to have a small crew of tech wear focused friends and this seems to be the same guy she photographs (her boyfriend apparently) in pic related
