basic at best. they just have their branding on point. they sell you the whole 'authentic' image/lifestyle thing really well.

There's nothing wrong with J Crew or Factory, they make basic decent quality clothes for decent prices. Not every brand has to make interesting original pieces for a niche market. The only real problem is the jacking up of original prices during a sale, particularly with Factory. The current sale price of 50% + 10% ends up at exactly the same end price as a 30% off sale a few months ago, they just raise the base price so that it looks like a better deal. Most basic mallcore brands are offenders as well but J. Crew is particularly bad, even if they make better clothes in general than Gap, Lucky, etc.

I don't know why everyone is bitching, J.Crew makes some of my favorite stuff at the pricepoint. My only complaint is that their stuff isn't slim fitting.

JCF sucks big time - the shirts are probably the most overpriced yet completely garbage shit I own.

Paper quality, wrinkles and has to be ironed after every wash, probably won't last more than a few months. Fit is nothing to be excited about.

I seriously have a dozen shirts I paid less than $15 for that are infinity better than JCF shit - in both quality, fabric, fit, design, etc.

Not to mention they just raise their price everytime they do sales like this anyway.

Bullshit. They've got 50 locations in the US. That shit is already trickling down into thrift stores. There's not nearly as much Zara as say Croft and Barrow or Express in the thrift stores, but it's there.
