Okay, say I actually want a tattoo. How do I proceed? I can't just go to a tattoo parlour, show a photo pulled of the internet and tell the master "yeah, I'd like this one please". That's horribly unimaginitive and pathetic. Choosing from a catalogue feels kinda same. Drawing a sketch myself isn't an option cause I can't draw for shit.

I found a dope artist on instagram and commissioned them to draw me something (this part is different than other people's paths) but I had never had a tattoo before. I researched places in my area, looked for artists at these places that seemed like they were good at the design i wanted (ie -> my piece is pretty geometrical and black and white so i looked for artist who did lots of tight line work and did mostly black/white). next step was visiting the few places that appealed to me. they recommended an artist based on what i was looking for. Emailed the idea to her, we set up a consult and she was super easy to work with even with me being a tattoo n3wb. now just waiting to get it done.

tl;dr it seems like a daunting process but its super easy and exciting

Half the battle with sentimental stuff is how much you care regarding what someone else thinks or would say about them.
