They shovel the snow off the sidewalks, but if it's snowing while you're out there, the snow is going to be almost half way up to your knee.

You'll definitely want lined, waterproof boots. Sorels are tried and tested here, but Bean boots could work too. For boots that look different from those, Palladium, Timberland, Uggs (yes really) and the usual suspects make some sort of waterproof boot. Can't really say how well they'll hold up, but they probably should be fine.

Definitely grab some thick socks. Get merino. Cotton kills (figuratively) out there.

Personally I think that its ok the way it is, maybe grow out the top a little and cut the sides a little bit as it grows. I think if you cut the sides too much it'll make your face look weird. So grow out the top a bit more and trim the sides as you do that and I think you'll look good. I'd suggest getting a little more advice from a barber or a better informed anon, I've had the same haircut my whole life.
