Essentially shoes with a big base, that's the style. They obviously increase height but it's not the purpose, just the aesthetic. Have been somewhat popular in the indie, puck, goth subculture for a long time. Seeing more conservative versions now such as the Prada creeper. Works well on skinny people.

UK fam interested in these, worth having a look at grenson - they have a lot of nice shoes with thick soles, albeit probably not worth full price (not sure what the going rate is now) and weirdly sized.
