Raw Denim 101:
http://www.rawrdenim.com/2011/09/the-essential-raw-denim-breakdown-our-100th-article/

If you need some more information, these two articles from rawrdenim are fantastic starting points.
Buying Your First Pair - A simple five-step guide
Selvedge Denim - A comprehensive explanation

Quick tips to anyone who wants to get into it
>Be patient, you don't need raws right away!
I know nobody wants to be dropping 300 bucks on Pure Blue Japan denim, but you don't have to have to settle on Levi's because you don't have the money right now. Take a month, and save up for a midrange brand. Chances are, most flagship pairs aren't going anywhere.

>How does X fit?
Blue owl workshop's measurements are usually consistent with one another. Measure a pair you like according to their guide, and compare it with measurements on their site. If you find a better price, then grab it somewhere else afterwards

>What brands?
Tricky question. The sticky denim section has a huge brand list, and most are agreed to be good quality. At the end of the day, as long as a brand is agreed to be "good," it just comes down to fit and color which is a personal preference.

>Raw denim is a troll
Then don't buy it

>But you shouldn't buy it!
Thanks for sharing! :)

I determine pre-purchase if they will be ankle length, cuffed or stacked.

Long inseams, thinner material and waxing (not sure) contributes to stacking. Also there is a J cut style that helps too.

>>9007256
I'm not personally familiar with rogues, so I'm curious to hear more too. But, just for reference, there are 3 things that contribute to crotch blowouts above all other things:
1- Size. If you size down or cop a cut that's just too tight on you (especially in the thighs), you're gonna lose your crotch fast
2- elestane content. Most if not all mid to high end denim does not have any elastane content (n+f is an exception, a lot of their pricier slim/skinny pairs use elastane), however, those that do are more likely to have crotch blowouts especially due to compromised denim strength
3- how you wear. If you adopt a more classic fit and wear the top box snugly around your groin area with the beltline up near your belly button (in applicable cuts), you're probably never going to have any crotch issues. if you let your jeans hang off your ass even a little, or just wear the beltline a little lower than intended, you're exacerbating crotch stress significantly.

Sorry if those were all obvious, just thought it was worth a post.

Also pretty shocked you have issues with your 3sixteens, they're some of my most highly respected denims. Sorry to hear that.

I never wear indigo raws out in the rain, unless they're my beater pair, so I can't really help you there, sorry. I'd say if you wanted to be conservative with your fades just pick the days you decide to wear them out with a bit more scrutiny, or bring an umbrella or something. I know a lot of people might say this sort of goes against the whole appeal of 'the fade' and the denim culture but whatever, I know how it is, I like to break my raws in really slow too before I start thrashing them.

As for chinos, i was gonna say cats paw since they do a really nice classic workwear fit series of pants but looks like their biggest is around 34 inches. Sorry pal. Samurai are infamous for their outrageously long cuts, I think they do a chino? Have a google for it or something

My levi's in sung blue came today.
First thing first -holy shit these are the most comfortable pants I have ever owned on my damn life. I felt like I was putting on a cloud on my legs. My other 510s aren't anywhere near this level. Top comfy

Anyways, I'm a little worried about sizing. I still need a belt for my pants to stay up comfortably (although I don't think they'd fall off if I just was walking around) so the waist is SLIGHTLY roomy. Should I size down another size? They are pretty stretchy. Another anon said that's fine because it'll look more relaxed due to being a little more loose throughout but I don't want that section of the pants to look awful.

Thoughts?

Seriously though I rec these pants. These are amazingly comfy.

where can i find skinny jeans in this wash?

MFA has a much better denim general that actually has helpful information.

i just looked at their site and they dont have button replacement. speaking of which, anyone know where to get replacement buttons?

Who makes your jeans?
I bet if you email the manufacturer, they could hook you up with some hardware so you don't have something like railcar buttons and then n&f buttons at the same time. (That'd bug me)

>>9016120
yeah, no complains here. OP here, I agree that leddit's got some decent guides. And honestly, /r/rawdenim is a pretty good community, where people aren't afraid of paying a little more unlike MFA.

i wear 32 x 32 and am really skinny (wide hips)

i can't find a pair of jeans that fit properly for the life of me
levis 510 USED to be perfect until they completely trashed the jeans with a new redesign and shittier quality material

i've tried APC petit standard & petit new standard, naked & famous, april77, uniqlo but they all either fit like shit or had terrible color patterns (uniqlo)

i need a basic pair of skinny jeans for fucks sake, i'm stuck to wearing a pair of black skinnies from h&m from the past 2 god damn years, and i can't find anything else that fits like them on me

>i'm not going for a 'super skinny' look, but i need super skinny jeans to make it appear slim tapered on my awkward proportions, pls help

For the price? Rogue Territory SKs might be good and are in a similar price range.

I don't know the exact measurements of the Max Cash but I would assume that it is a skinny taper. the Sks are a lot roomier in the thigh so those might be good
