Raw Denim 101:

If you need some more information, these two articles from rawrdenim are fantastic starting points.
Buying Your First Pair - A simple five-step guide
Selvedge Denim - A comprehensive explanation

Quick tips to anyone who wants to get into it
>Be patient, you don't need raws right away!
I know nobody wants to be dropping 300 bucks on Pure Blue Japan denim, but you don't have to have to settle on Levi's because you don't have the money right now. Take a month, and save up for a midrange brand. Chances are, most flagship pairs aren't going anywhere.

>How does X fit?
Blue owl workshop's measurements are usually consistent with one another. Measure a pair you like according to their guide, and compare it with measurements on their site. If you find a better price, then grab it somewhere else afterwards

>What brands?
Tricky question. The sticky denim section has a huge brand list, and most are agreed to be good quality. At the end of the day, as long as a brand is agreed to be "good," it just comes down to fit and color which is a personal preference.

>I don't like raws!
And that is okay. But before complaining, you should understand that all jeans will fade to some extent, raws just have a tendency to keep their color and look better after the same time.
Check out Levi's, CM, Acne, the usual suspects. You don't need to spend as much in that case.

>Raw denim is a troll and looks like shit wahhh everyone pay attention to me because I have nothing better to do than bitch on a Vietnamese comic book site
(: thanks for sharing

Kinda torn on my next purchase.

I can't decide between the Rogue Territory Dark SKs (13.5 oz) and the NF Skinny Guy Elephant 4 (22 oz) I am p. skinny, (I skip leg day and have no muscle development in my legs) and both are in the same price range. But I'm worried about how flattering the cut on the Skinny Guy's are on people who are actually skinny. (510s don't seem to taper enough for me)

Also I hear the elephants are unbearably uncomfortable

Thoughts?

I have the UB Skinny 101 in 28x34. Fits me perfectly for being 6'3" 150 lbs. The leg taper is not as "skinny" as you might prefer, but for me they are perfect. Not too skinny, not too baggy. Only complaint is, I have a pretty big dick and when I sit down sometimes my junk gets a little squashed and uncomfortable, however that's really a minor complaint. Other people may not have this issue.

just copped a pair of APC Petit New Standards in size 28. normally wear a 30, but i read to size down. i'm on concerned about the fit because, while i heard they stretch a lot, it is hard to sit down in them. they're also slightly tighter than i'd want in the thighs. will these problems disappear as they stretch? also, i'm hesitant to size up to a 29 because they actually fit perfectly in the waist. thanks!

Not at all. They feel like cardboard, literally, from the outside (which has always been fun to talk about and show friends), but it's not noticeable as you walk in them. Yeah, 13 oz jeans are going to be softer, more comfortable to wear, but 22 oz isn't "unbearable". I ran two miles in them once, it didn't kill me.

well all denim fades. In fact, a lot of raws will often hold their original color longer than say Levi's if you care for them correctly.

I like them because it is kinda fun to watch a pair of jeans transform as you wear them, you know what I'm saying? You watch a pair of jeans become "your" jeans if that makes sense. Something I've always enjoyed.

Also, construction and cut tends to be miles better than most unraw brands

iIt's funny how people cant imagine themselves wearing shitty prefaded jeans but know their raws to be exactly like that except it molds to their body and it has the sik fadez contrast.

Raw denim is just a gateway piece that eventually becomes the biggest dadcore piece youll own. I end up just wearing pants after the only thing you can pair raw denim with is grey tshirts and flannels.

Ive seen the denim for myself and it's pretty good, I've seen worse in the entry level price range. Looks better than April77 for instance. can't speak for the cut and fit as I haven't tried them on, just looked at them.

Might cop a black pair.

crosspostin:

i've had my apc petit standards for a year now and my thighs have gotten more muscular so that the jeans emphasize them too much. would petit new standards be better for me? i want a skinny cut but something with more room in the thighs. also, would the sizing be the same? i wear a 29 ps

levi's made and crafted has some pretty nice stuff.

>> No.8904761

Any specific pairs/models for big thighs?

Either have to size up from 32 to 34 or even 36 on most jeans that are even remotely slim/skinny fit to get them over my quads. Straight/relaxed fit fine on the waist but they look like shit because of the ankle opening even with a pinroll.

Thinking about getting either New Standards or Petit Standards and get my regular size since people say the stretch like fuck. Already have a pair of ED-55's in 32 which fit really well on the seat/thigh but under taper under the knee is ridiculously big still.
