I own Stan Smiths and owned Sk8 his (sold them recently). I can say I don't really wear my smiths that often because I really don't like the silhouette on my foot. I prefer a slimmer shoe and consequently I usually wear my shittier jack purcells in place of the smiths. I had the same problem w sk8 his where the silhouette was just too fat for me.
