So what about the realistic side of clothing /fa/?, you know the one that you are supposed to wear when going shopping, when chilling with mates, when commuting.

Preppy, Menswear and work-wear, is fantastically functional for the 10% of the population that lives in places with an average temperature of 15-20°C, has a stable job, a 80K annual income, a car and a big house in a good neighborhood.

I live in a hot place, I commute and I don't have an stable job, so I use; Lightweight denim, trousers, all cotton dress pants, Joggers, tees, lightweight shirts, jersey long tee (fabric) and nothing more heavy than knit pull ups in winter.I see people that dress with heavy fabrics in my city as total tryhards.

I haven't owned a pair of boat shoes, manly because I don't live nearby a fucking beach nor I own a boat, I don't have 17oz denim nor wool pants, because that's just fucking ludacris.

I wear preppy stuff on a daily basis because it's comfy (yeah, it is), looks good, is socially acceptable, and most importantly because it forms a key part of my identity and self-realisation. When I wake up in the morning I take pride in the high quality, good looking clothes I wear and when I walk out of the door to go to a lecture I feel fully 'dressed', as if I'm ready for the day - it's a real aesthetic pleasure, like looking at gorgeous 17th century art in person. When I run out of the house at 7:30 am in a t shirt, shorts and boat shoes to get some milk I feel like shit and probably look like shit too

P.S. I own boat shoes because my grandparents own a boat

Gant and Gant Rugger are my absolute favourite brands - as a basic starting point, you cannot go wrong with their Yale Oxfords. Get one in white, one in light blue, and one in white/blue stripe and the core of a preppy wardrobe is there. I would also recommend their jumpers/cardigans (the lambswool cables are great), socks, underwear, jackets, blazers and ties. Steer clear of the mainline trousers/jeans though, you only want Gant Rugger for those if you're not fat or old

Beyond that, Ralph Lauren Polo is good for individual pieces but it's inconsistent - some pieces are little more than a pony and fabric. Good shoes (dark brown blucher brogues are a solid cop) are also necessary, spend a lot on these (Loake 1880, Trickers). For higher end stuff look at Norse Projects, Thom Browne, A.P.C.

Jack Wills is a faux pas, as is Hollister/Abercrombie
