Raw Denim 101:
http://www.rawrdenim.com/2011/09/the-essential-raw-denim-breakdown-our-100th-article/

If you need some more information, these two articles from rawrdenim are fantastic starting points.
Buying Your First Pair - A simple five-step guide
Selvedge Denim - A comprehensive explanation

Quick tips to anyone who wants to get into it
>Be patient, you don't need raws right away!
I know nobody wants to be dropping 300 bucks on Pure Blue Japan denim, but you don't have to have to settle on Levi's because you don't have the money right now. Take a month, and save up for a midrange brand. Chances are, most flagship pairs aren't going anywhere.

>How does X fit?
Blue owl workshop's measurements are usually consistent with one another. Measure a pair you like according to their guide, and compare it with measurements on their site. If you find a better price, then grab it somewhere else afterwards

>What brands?
Tricky question. The sticky denim section has a huge brand list, and most are agreed to be good quality. At the end of the day, as long as a brand is agreed to be "good," it just comes down to fit and color which is a personal preference.

my favorite denim... they know how to make real good cuts for skinny IMO. I own 3 pairs. 2 denims, and one great quality selvedge chino.
I've recycled my UB201s and I currently wear my UB101s almost everyday.

I own more expensive denim, APC PS, weird guy N&F, and a pair of Momotaros... Now they just collec dust

denim doesnt just keep shrinking

if you get raw unsanforized denim it will shrink 10-15% upon soak/first wash and will shrink/expand as you wear and wash them

naked and famous isn't true raw denim it's treated at the factory be it with glow in the dark dye, or some other stupid hemp over dye or something whatever their gimmick of the week is

APC petite standard or APC new petite standard?

>> No.8761923 [DELETED]

Anybody own a pair of 3Sixteen in the slim-tapered cut?
I'm really thinking of getting a pair of ST-120x's, but I cannot get a good read on the fit on these things. Leddit is so inconsistent on what constitutes as a good fit for jeans. A lot of them seem fucking huge on some guys, but here is this one and this guy looks great on them and they look actually slim tapered, same with another few guys.
I really have been wanting to grab a pair of these because a lot of the fades look awesome, but being on the skinny side, I don't wanna dive into these that quick without making sure I won't be swimming in them.

>> No.8761942

I copped a pair of N&F skinny guy deep indigo from blueowl but the measurements are not like the ones on the website... the waist is one incher larger and the thigh is half inch tighter
I'm okay with these measurements, too(for the waist I just need a belt, for the thigh it is even better if it is smaller), but just to know, how much shrinkage should I expect in the waist from the first wash?

>inb4 return them
returning them will cost me half the money the jeans costed ;_;

if they're raw they'll stretch before they shrink
n&f is for skinny fats anyways

PS has a bit more of a taper in the knee and leg opening, where the NPS has a roomier knee and leg opening. Just depends on what you want. If you are a hungry skelly, go for PS, if you want something a little roomier, go for new PS
>>8761942
If the measurements are off, email blue owl about it and see if they'll meet you half way on exchanging them for a pair with better measurements. Just snap some pics measuring with their guide because that is usually how they measure.

Shrinkage won't be a big deal because they will stretch back out pretty quick to the size you bought them at anyways. If anything, you should be worried about stretch in the waist imo, but wearing a belt will be fine.

I need a pair of ~$100 slim black jeans which I can wear for a couple months before I can afford something nicer.
Where should I look? I have a 28' leg and 29' waist so its very difficult to find stuff in my size, and getting 6 inches hemmed ends up looking awkward

meaing if you bought raw demin you should wear them without washing them for a minimum of 6 months depending on the weight of the jean
and i mean that naked and famous cater to more average guys aka skinny fat dudes

I'm skinny-fat. I wanted to buy a pair of mid-tier raw denim like 3-sixteens/apc/japan blue but I'm not sure if that's wise since I plan on picking up running. I wanted to buy UB's but the low rise kinda puts me off. I'm mainly looking for "cheap" mid-rise raw denim I can wear with a slightly cropped jacket

I recently bought a pair of their slim selvedge jeans in navy. However, I don't like the fit. I got them in 31 waist and 32 length. but they just aren't tapered enough for me.

Anyone know where to cop some decent skinnies? Unbranded sounds like a start.
