Sup /fa/, I'm moving to Seattle for uni in a month and need some waterproof stuff apparently.

I need a waterproof bag/coat/shoes, ~$100 each would be nice and black would fit best with wardrobe.

Also, any other Seattle /fa/gs have advice/stores?

Does it rain in the northwest a lot? Fuck yes.

Is it a 24/7, 7 day a week deluge that makes Noah's ark look like a rubber duck in a kiddie pool on a warm summer day? Absolutely not.

More often than not during the fall and winter it will be overcast and have a light drizzle. But cities like New York, Boston and Miami actually get way more total precipitation.

I go to U of O and I recommend a pair of water proof shoes, I use nike frees 5.0 black and for my boots I spray them.. A waterproof jacket WITH A HOOD is good. Like a shell type of deal. I have one from Helly Hansen and it's great.. GET WATERPROOF, NOT WATER RESISTENT. Looking to buy one from Norse Projects new line for this winter/spring as well.

Umbrellas are useful but sometimes overkill.

Beanies and fleeces are great, wool sweaters and socks.

Pants are debatable. Just don't wear something that gets super dark with colors. Get raw denim or black pants. Have fun. Dressing for the rain is great. Love cold weather. Sick layering

>> No.8722019

Lived in the Seattle area my whole life. I don't own any specifically waterproof shoes or rain jacket.

You can just wear normal clothes. Just get some kind of waterproof shell. You will see a lot of North Face jackets here.
I do advise against wearing canvas shoes when its wet out. From my experience wearing converses the water seeps through the seams on the sole and also any water that splashes the top will get through.

I'd advise against an umbrella because you will look like a tourist or foreigner with one. Not to mention the winds will make your umbrella useless and just ruin them. Just put on the hood of your jacket.

I don't think you need to buy a specifically waterproof backpack either. Most backpacks have a sort of rubber coating inside that keeps it resistant, and its good enough. Occasionally you will get a little bit of seepage during the big storms, but its rare enough.

Born and raised in Seattle. You don't need waterproof shoes or a waterproof bag - a leather boot like a Doc Marten would easily be enough for the days when it's actually raining (not just misty/drizzly). Just don't wear canvas sneaks when it's raining. I don't think I've ever used an umbrella in my life. Get a ubiquitous raincoat from North Face or Patagonia, or a fishtail parka.

Bit of a plug because I work there (creative not sales) but Totokaelo is the best store in the city. It's on 10th between Pike and Pine (near Seattle U/Bobby Morris playfield) and they stock lots of cool (expensive) shit like Acne, APC, Jil, Ann D, Yohji, Rick, and lesser-known designers. The men's store is down a flight of stairs and it's a super cool space - white floor and walls with a giant wood shelf of shoes.

There's also Barneys (inside Pacific Place mall) Nordstrom (linked to Pacific Place) and Allsaints as well as H&M downtown. I can't believe there's not a Uniqlo yet.

Fjallraven (on 1st, south of the market) is cool but not super /fa/ in the traditional sense - Scandinavian winter-wear mostly, but it doesn't get that cold.

>>8721610 Seconded. Blue Owl has a crazy selection and fantastic customer service if you are at all interested in raw denim, but it caters more to workwear.

Embrace the muted palettes of October-March.

live innawoods outside of seattle

i can say that first off, typically a hoodie or a hardshell will do just fine, hoodie for most days when it's overcast or drizzle, but when it actually rains a hardshell is fine if you plan on walking.

if you are going to be walking most places or doing work outside, it would be good to invest in some rainproof gear, a nice rainproof jacket, waterproof shoes, maybe even pants as well, however, if you will be driving, using public transportation, walking briefly or staying indoors, a hoodie or light parka will do just fine.

as far as shoes go, like i said, if you plan on walking or working outside, get some waterproof shoes, but if you aren't doing either of those, any shoe will do fine, just dodge puddles.

Well I actually started as an intern but their stylist assistant and photography assistant both recently left so I got promoted. I guess I'm the "creative assistant" until I go back to school.
I saw a posting for the internship, walked in the retail location and happened to meet the current stylist. I gave him my resume, wrote a cover letter that night, and got an interview a couple days later.

They seem to be hiring all the time.
The twitter and instagram feeds have postings every so often, and totokaelo.com/careers has stuff too. You might need prior experience to work in sales, but I didn't have the amount of education they wanted for the internship. I would imagine they care more if you are good with people and have a good fashion sense.

Inventory is pretty much what you'd think, and management/marketing/e-commerce/etc. is much more of an office job than something like sales or creative.

What's your skillset? What do you want to do?

I only own a couple of pieces in that range because I'm also poorfag. In the city itself thrift stores are honestly your best bet for really cool pieces besides the others I listed. Urban outfitters, like nordstrom and the rack, has a lot of crap, but occasionally some stuff worth your while. Crossroads and the like are more expensive than Value Village but they're also more likely to have cool shit.
Honestly the range for /fa/ clothes in my mind goes h&m, zara, thrift stores, nordstrom, and then a power gap until you get to totokaelo which carries everything above that. I think there's a hole for a mid-tier boutique which doesn't happen in like NY. Nordstrom would be there except 85% is bad. I guess streetwear fills that hole, but I don't know too much about it. I feel like most of /fa/ is wearing a lot of cheaper basics with maybe one expensive piece, or a lot of expensive pieces.

thanks for responding! I'd really like to work with the clothes and maybe do sales/modeling if that's a possibility. not extremely knowledgable when it comes to fashion but it is a huge interest and I'm learning more every day. have about 3 years retail experience so that might be good, and my girlfriend and I are moving to seattle next summer so I still have some time to learn about more things beforehand. she actually has a degree in photography and has a lot of work experience with that so so she was interested in applying for one of the creative jobs. you think you could maybe drop me your email? i'd love to talk to you about this more about totokaelo/seattle.

I live in Seattle and bus+walk 10 minutes to my office. I wear a Barbour and Red Wings during the winter which are out of the 100 dollar range.

You can definitely get away with a shell in terms of rain, but you should definitely get shoes that aren't suede/canvas since they'll just get wet.

Filson and Freeman are local places that make some great weather gear if you want to splurge.

Umbrellas are definitely touristy and it doesn't pour often.

Recent winters have a few weeks in the 30s but that's unusual, so cold weather gear is less necessary but you might want to go skiing or something.
