They're both twill fabrics, but are treated differently (I'm not sure on the specifics).
I wouldn't say that chino is "just like" soft denim, but they have plenty of similarities. There's a reason that so many people recommend them as an alternative to jeans.

My raw denim collection so far:

Bluer 1776 Raw Selvedge Slim Straight. (got for $90 shipped on a sale)
Jacob Davis Raw Straight (got for $70 shipped, on sale, plus got a 10% refund)
Levis Rigid STF ($40 shipped. free shipping plus $10 off coupon)

Relatively new to raw denim but I can feel the addiction building... The ones I have listed above are the only pairs of raw denim I've owned and its only been about 5 months of owning them, and I'm already considering making the jump into some of the higher end brands of raw selvedge denim. the longer you wear without washing, the greater the fading (as the stress points will lost the most indigo).
to reduce fading, soak in cold water for 30-40 minutes every 3 or 4 weeks. you can use a little detergent if you want, i use woolite dark.

also, never dry denim in a dryer, just hang them or put them on a rack.

yes, a decent tailor should be able to take in the waist, being selvedge should not affect it.
look up yelp reviewers of tailors near you if you can, find one with a decent amount of good reviews, go to them and tell them what you need.

>>8718976
slim tapered. (slim in thigh, tapers down from knee to leg-opening... meaning the leg opening is smaller than the knee.)

when you see a knee measurement of 8in, that's with the denim laid out flat, so the actual knee would be double that.

a straight fit would have the same measurement for knee and leg-opening.
where a taper fit usually has a leg opening around 1 inch to 1.5 inches smaller.

>>8718980
depends. most denim will give a bit after about a week of regular wear, but not a whole lot. if you can't even fit 2 fingers comfortably between the jeans and the skin, should probably size up 1.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the whole underrating Levis can get out of hand.

Let's get this straight - they're not top of the line denim nor will their mainline ever will be considered top. However, this is not what Levis excels in... One of the best qualities about Levi is their variety of cuts and washes. In almost every country in this world can you find a pair of Levis and while you claim they're different from one country to the next, they're not ... You only hear of extreme variations of some items and that is bound to happen with any mass produced product, but they're still overall reliable jeans.

If you're living in the US you've got it good with Levis. They're cheap, never will go out of style and they're in every department store. They're reliable and from the price you pay, can you ask anymore?

... but then there's LVC. Levis Vintage Clothing is probably one of the better raw blines. Just like mainline Levis they share somewhat of a variety.
>but wait they're all 501s.
Yes but 1940s' will vary from the 1970s', that's what makes them so fucking awesome. You get the whole nostalgic experience with them and you don't even had to have been alive for that junk. For their price range it's not even that bad either.

For black jeans ACNE APC's only redeeming quality is that their standard raws develop beautiful fades, the construction is shit.

Oh, in that case idk, my new standards stretched in the thighs a bit

maybe you should just lose weight, like I said, because of the fact that you can get them on at this size it would be a pretty bad idea to get them 2 sizes bigger.

Idk though you should try on the 32 and if it still feels a bit tight in the waist you should be ok

Hi /denim/. I bought a cheap pair of Black Levis 510s just to pair with some black suede clarks londons.

However, because they're a teeny bit long I need to pin roll them. I've had them taken up already but need to go again. But before I go and get them taken up again I wanted to know about the hems

1. when these Levis do get rolled they seem really bulky and akward

2. The hem should be slightly narrower because they seem a bit baggy at the bottom. They fit really nicely except at the bottom.

Any advice? I know I'm a cheapskate pleb and whatever but any advice or brands that don't do this would be great.

Thanks

They get bulky and awkward because they have a severe taper. So if you roll them up via pinrolling, the part right before the pinroll is still a larger size.
Best idea would be to just take them to a tailor and have them tapered and hemmed to a way you like, or to buy a different brand of jeans (Because I wouldn't wanna tailor my 510s)

Speaking of 510s, how would I go about making my 510s more comfortable? I have a pair in jet that I really like, but they make me all itchy and gross. Fabric softener or something else?

you don't need fucking raw denim to not have fades. just get some solid color levis in indigo or dark indigo.

if you think buying jeans with artificial fading is a good idea, you shouldn't be on /fa/

>> No.8723640

Should i was my raws?

I have had them for over a year with frequent wear, the fades are light blue / white and really pop against the darker portions, thinking washing would get them a little lighter all around.....

but the thought of fucking them up.... tbh i wouldn't really care if they would get fucked, then i could just start over with a new pair

think imma give them a soak wash and see what happens

So /fa/, Ive got a bit of a problem. I recently returned from half a year backpacking trip during which I lost 8kg weight, and a big part of that was my leg muscles (I had quite big quads and ass).
So the problem is the fit on my apc ps is so shit I can't wear them at all in public (too loose). They've got maybe 2 months worth of wear so I obviously haven't washed them yet. How much do you guys think a wash would cause them to shrink? Would it ruin muh fades forever?

From an online boutique; alternatively you could contact any of the fashion (or high-end denim) boutiques in Russia and ask them if they know of anyone who stocks them but who might not advertise online.
