Recently i've started up a label with a friend of mine.

The entire thing has been completely my idea from the start, the style, the image, everything about it. My friend expressed eagerness to join in a "business" with me, so i welcomed him, thinking it would be fun having someone to help. Unfortunately my friend has no idea about clothes or fashion, hasn't really shown much interest in learning about it or getting involved, and in general seems to just be leaching off my ideas as a way to make money. He's contributed nothing in terms of original design or ideas.

The problem is, in the early stages he fronted most of the cash for supplies such as a screen printer and paints/fabrics. We're now in a situation where we are selling quite alot of stuff, however he is the one taking the money because he's fronted all the initial money for equipment. Basically i'm not seeing a cent until these materials are paid off. Once they have been paid off, i've realized i will be having to split a profit off something that is 100% my originality and creativity and vision.

This guy knows nothing about clothes, he wears fake leather jackets and sneakers for fuck's sake. He is one of my good friends and i just feel really bad about the whole situation, if i design a shirt and sell it for 50 bucks i don't wanna be splitting that money because he's my "partner" when i've done everything and he's just paid for the materials.

Any advice on what to do here would be great.

thats how it works. doesnt matter if you're the creative force, without his cash your 'label' wouldnt exist.

once his initial investment is paid off i suggest you offer to buy him out and become sole owner of the business.

You got into a business partnership and have gotten mildy successful, which wouldn't have happened without him.

Everyone has different skills/assets they bring to make a company successful; yours knowledge and his the funding. What do you expect to happen? Fucking mongoloid

without him you wouldn't have been able to get any of your ideas off the ground anyway
once the materials are paid off split the money with him and offer to buy him out if he contributes nothing like the other guy said

Stop being a little bitch and post your label.

Also what is investing? Just tell him hands off the creative aspect and if he can't continue providing bank roll than he's out.

But POST YOUR LABEL

I have just started this exact same thing except my friend was the lead clothes designer, I was left to headhunt manufacturers for screen-printing, sort with packaging, the clothing itself (FOTL/ Gildan/ Anvil etc.) and he just slapped out a few idea's and I was stupid enough to say we split the profits 50/50, I'm even the one coughing out the starter cash and he's waiting for it to roll in, how can I lower his paygrade without him fucking off, I even enquired with friendly accountants about laws and VAT regulations

So when you make enough money split off and make a new company. You're lucky he even believed in you, you're kind of a dick.

I see why you feel this way OP and i can sympathize but you just need to wait until the money keeps coming in and eventually break off and form your own label. You could help your friend become effay and it would become a combined effort making your endeavors more profitable in the long run etc.

He is business minded, you are art minded. You may not like it, or cannot see why it is fair, but this is how successful businesses work. What would any company be without bookeepers, accountants, stockholders, stock brokers, agents, etc? You're lucky you're partnered with one instead of having multiple specialists on separate payrolls.

I know a similar situation.

This friend of mine was in a band. The band broke up when the singer decided to leave, because he got new friends. Well, the singer read some famous book about manipulating people and getting money and shit and he got crazy about it. He started doing weird stuff like selling shit to his friends. Then he got in a label with one of his new friends. He just put the money and worked as public relations. The other guy I don't really know does all the actual work.

Last time I saw the singer was when he rang at my flat. I opened the door expecting some of my flatmates and there he was. He was looking for my friend (the one he was in a band with). He left. A couple of hours later my flatmate appears and says he has something to tell me I'm going to laugh about. He gets a plastic bag out of his pocket. Plastic bag contains very suspicious looking pills. Apparently the singer gave him this bag and told him they were vitamin surplus for students (we were almost in our finals). They were one of the products some pyramidal scheme he got in was selling.

Pyramid schemes are great.

Every single person I've known to get suckered into one are extremely narcissistic and equally inept.

The ones with crushing debt who think they're playboys.

Or they have a pre-marital kid from highschool and act like they pull all the bitches.

The failures on every level of life who can somehow pull the mental gymnastics to convince themselves that they're hot shit.

It's funny how when they get suckered into these shits and act like it's their key to greatness. Like they're going to be millionaires living in mansions in the foreseeable future. So they relentlessly try and hustle their laundry detergent or energy drinks or whatever the fuck thing that nobody wants on anyone they possible can, like their older family they've been leeching off of their entire lives. And then after a few months when they realize they just got duped out of their money, they pretend like it never happened. Absolutely hilarious.
