isn't it weird how corny everything looked 5-8 years ago now yet when u were in that time period it was perfectly normal

anyone have pics of that effay meetup where all the fucclords were wearing converse and ties?

>> No.8423917

Those fits wouldn't be too out of place IRL though, the picture quality is definitely fucking with it.

But yeah 2009 /fa/ was weird, I remember being obsessed with all these really stupid details. Like there was no such thing as individualism with anything, everything had to be styled in a specific way. It was considered normal to have discussions on shit like "is it ok to purposely have the thin part of your tie out farther than the thick part???"

No one was willing to experiment at all. People here complain about how we have a ton of "dressed by the internet" kids, but it was way worse back then. The internet would tell you what to wear and how to wear it without any deviation, down to the smallest details.

dude this is /fa/ always today asking if fit/brand/movie/person is /fa/ and if it's not people here wont wear/like it's basicly a lot of insecure people asking for approval for some fags on a internet image board and they think there superior than the average person for it.

i always wonder if we'd look at trends today and shit and feel the same way

im sure it will, like all the whole ozweego type shit looks cool now (to some people) because its refreshing and new, but later on we might look back at it and laugh

but then again, ozweegos deviate so far off from typical fashion that it may not ever become cheesy, because the whole reason why people like them is because theyre cheesy on purpose.

probably the most safest thing that'll never be cheesy and will always be in style and safe would be something like white tshirt, well fitting jeans, and clean solid color sneakers.

Nah, nah, nah. /fa/ was significantly worse back then. At least now there are separate threads/styles people talk about. It seems like none of you three were actually here in 2009, as the difference between individuality on /fa/ now is very different than the individuality of /fa/ then.

And even though people are still dictated by what the majority of people on /fa/ are saying, you still have many posters coming in to say "hey, that shit's boring and you're being dressed by the internet, stop it." That didn't exist back then.

you really missed the point of what he was saying, in that today when someone says "is ___ /fa/" its analogous to someone just asking if something looks good or not. /fa/ back in 2008-2010 was much, much more hivemind than it is today, where people were literally dressed by infographics and and treated them as gospel. you HAD to tuck in your shirt, you HAD to match your belt with your shoes, you HAD to replace all your graphic tees with solids, etc etc

whether or not youre happy with /fa/ today, know that its much better off than it used to be in the beginning

I've been on /fa/ since 2009, and I have folders from pics posted around that time. Plenty of the fashion from back then[not counting trends or mall tier stuff[ is still more fashionable than whatever is posted in 2014 /fa/'s WAYWT. I'm looking through my folder, and there are plenty of fits/style from stylezeitgeist/superfuture, that are still inspirational today.

/fa/ on the other hand is mostly laughable.

to be fair sz has always been a site filled with an older, educated crowd while /fa/ back then was filled with early 20-somethings whose fashion knowledge went as far as lookbook and were generally more interested in comics and tinychat than fashion

sz had (and still has) its fair share of misses too

at least they are nice to him
imagine that thread today

>hi /fa/ i need some tips

>read the sticky
>lose weight fat cunt
>fuck off back to /v/
>ect

thread moves to page ten and dies, maybe the dude read the sticky, which is getting to be outdated and is lacking anyway and maybe he just leaves disheartened
i bet you the dude who had that pasta sent to him back in 2099 is now dressing better and feeling better about himself
who knows, he could be married by now

to be fair those were people from the /fa/ chatroom who really cared more about the chat than they did about fashion.

>>8424253
Not having a sticky made the board's culture a bit more copy-pastey, a bit more patient and a lot more mundane. If you thought haircut threads were bad now, 2008-2009 was much worse.
