How do I start being /fa/?
I've read the sticky, and I'm still not 100% sure on where to start from. Thinking of just getting some staple shoes, and shirts/pants that aren't too crazy. Not a huge fan of baggy. Any suggestions?

>> No.8191965

do you wanna be /fa/ or do you wanna look good? theres a huge difference

If you wanna be /fa/ you're gonna have to cop a pair of rick dunks -> https://www.rickowens.eu/en/men/products/ru14s1894lpo-991
and thats pretty much all you need. you can rock your favorite pair of underwear, or you can go commando

to actually be /fa/ you just have to kill you'reself

>> No.8191980

i would say you start by phasing out the shittiest items in your wardrobe and replacing them with something decent. so if you have a really hideous selection of shirts or your jeans are all shit or whatever, do that first. but the main goal is just to get a wardrobe of respectable basics out of the way. you're going to be trying to shop mainly at h&m and uniqlo and places like that, copping basic t-shirts and oxfords and stuff. grab some decent shoes- af1s, roshes, new balances, and converse are big right now. your first 'expensive' purchase should probably be a pair of good jeans, which depending on your budget and how nice you want them to be can be somewhere in the 100-300 dollar range. /fa/ used to be really into naked and famous jeans and nudie jeans, but since the raw denim hype has died out people here are more likely to recommend you acne jeans. there's nothing wrong with nudies though and the only problem with n&f is their weird cuts and the fact that they make them extra long because "muh cuffs", but cuffing jeans isn't really big anymore so you'll probably have to get them hemmed

when it gets cold out look for a decent bomber jacket somewhere

get some skinny black jeans from cheap monday, a plain white, grey and navy tee from uniqlo or AA and a sweater from weekday. find maybe a parka or a jacket somewhere like carhartt or penfield. youre kinda streetwear now and will blend in with 18-25 year olds in london

also browse inspo threads as much as you can

Here, OP. This should get you on the right track.

oh also be careful not to do things that were trendy a few years ago. peacoats and desert boots are both out of style now but people who don't know any better and got into fashion in 2011 will say 'hurr get clarks durr get a navy peacoat hurr grow a beard' and you should know that in 2014 the trends are more towards streetwear and normal, technical-oriented clothing.

also don't listen to any of the aspies who will tell you to buy 100 dollar tees and shit right off the bat because that's what's /fa/, unless you're rolling in cash you need to work up to that point and you're going to want to have decent basics until then

Alright, thanks guys. Should I just cop a bunch of different colored tees/pants, like some of the colors at the top of this pic? I don't want to be too mono

Couple posts in and this is already the most helpful thread I've seen on /fa/ in a long time. Also..cop some Stan Smith Adidas OP.

Those are actually exactly what I was looking at. The white/green ones. Thinking of getting black ones too but not sure about getting the same kinda shoe.
I usually wear lowtops, I kinda wanna try high. Probably just gonna hold on for now though

Sure, but keep it fairly basic when you're starting out, and use your money towards core, basic items that'll last forever and never go out of style.

Alot of people will try to discourage you from going to fast fasion places like H&M, F21, and Zara, but truth be told therier low prices make it really easy to experiment with trends.

Wow, I'm looking at the Basics section in H&M and everything is really inexpensive; I was expecting to pay a lot for clothes. Will definitely look into these.
And yeah no worries, I just want to start dressing nicer for now, I'll try crazy things later. Just trying to start up a new collection. I have a lot of bad shirts.

>> No.8192058

>>8192044

I would recommend Uniqlo over H&M for basics. They put much more emphasis on the quality of their fabric. Their oxford shirts and basic tees are wonderful.

Everlane is also a really good choice, though a teensy bit more expensive.

looking at uniqlo's stuff as well, should i just get their pants as well? or is there a better place for that

>> No.8192096

their pants are made better than other fast fashion places but not as slim fitting or trendy as places like H&M or F21. if you're going for dadcore it could work

Cotton On has really good skinny chinos.

I have two pairs and they fit like a dream. Just make sure to take care of them when you wash them. They're pretty soft and stretchy, so they might shrink a bit along the seams towards the bottom..

>> No.8192124

>>8192116
They're also double the price. Is it honestly worth it? I'm lovin' the chinos too but remember I'm just trying to start a collection here

>> No.8192138

>>8192124

I think they are, but one of them I was able to get on sale for, like, 15 bucks.

However, if you have a J. Crew in your area, feel free to see if they have any Urban Slim Fit chinos on sale. Those are pretty nice, too.

>> No.8192143

>>8192124

Not that guy, but you're probably going to wanna spend a bit more on pants since you'll be wearing them more often.

>> No.8192150

>>8192143
Yeah I know, it's just for like 2 of the ones at cotton on I could get 4 at H&M. I'd like some variety in my wardrobe so I'm not wearing the same outfits every day. Honestly for now I'll probably go the less expensive route, and maybe cop some higher end ones once they die on me. Not exactly made of money here

>> No.8192164

>>8192150

Well, if you must, I'd stick with their Conscious collection. Both the colors they have here are excellent for spring and summer.

>> No.8192203

Those are the only skinnies they have, so I might just cop both of those colors. Gonna check out their jeans too.
By the way, any specific shirt colors you'd want to recommend? I'm pretty new to this, though if you don't want to spoonfeed, that's fine too. I appreciate the help so far anyways man.

>> No.8192217

Yo I'm not sure what size chinos I'd get. I'm a manlet, so I usally get like 30/32 jeans and those are a little lose around the waist. Should I just get 30R?

>> No.8192218

>> No.8192255

>>8192203

Hey no problem, bro.

Anyway, the most classic basic colors for dressy button ups that are meant to be worn with a suit are

>white
>grey
>light blue

If you wanna branch out a bit, feel free to go with some patterns like gingham, plaid, chambray, and pinstripe.

Bolder colors are best utilized with patterns, because if it's just a solid block of, let's say, royal blue, it'll overwhelm anything you're wearing over it. Save those colors for the outer layers, like sweaters or jackets.

>> No.8192257

>>8192255
Suits? What?
Anyways, I might just have to get cotton on skinny chinos. H&M is sold out of 30R in both colors. Fuck

>> No.8192349

>>8192257

I'm just trying to paint a picture of what colors get worn most often. If you plan on getting ones specifically for the summer, feel free to check out some short sleeve ones, particularly ones with subtle patterns or prints.

As for the chinos, trust me, you won't regret it. The sahara color is best, in my opinion. Goes well with almost anything.

>> No.8192360

>>8192349
Yeah I like that one too. I was going to get it, just trying to think of another one to cop for now. And I'm mostly looking at summer stuff. It's hot as fuck in Phoenix
