/fa/ hates Rolex because they do not look "unique". Some people think they are gaudy, and they can be. A solid gold Rolex or even a two-tone can be gaudy as hell. For me, steel is where it's at.

Sure they are mass produced, but the quality is impeccable. Every single watch is perfect coming out of the factory. The movements are extremely reliable, and the designs are timeless classics for the most part.

If you buy a Rolex, it will last you for your entire life. If you buy used, the prices are extremely reasonable.

I bought my Sea-Dweller used, but in flawless mint condition. The only thing that was missing was the stickers. The list price was around 8700 Euro, but I got it for 5200. In my opinion, that is an excellent price for a classic watch made from the highest grade of steel in the world, which will last me for my entire life.

Some people where don't like them because they supposedly have no "soul" or individuality. The soul or personality of the watch comes from the user. The user defines the look of a watch.

Robert Redford, Steve Mcqueen, Louis CK, Charlize Theron or anybody else can all wear the some bog-standard model of Rolex Submariner, but the character of the watch will be imparted from them, not the other way around.

It's like a blank slate, pretty much. You can look cool-as-hell, or like a rich asshole, depending on how you wear it and what kind of persona you have.

No premium watch company has a lifetime warranty.

Also, what is the point of lifetime warranty if you still have to have it service and any dents or dings can be placed on the users faults?

What would the warranty be for?

>> No.8156339

>>8156316
because then people would actually use the lifetime warranty on the services and they won't pay thousands to keep their watch ticking yearly

on rolex forums, the guys who sell their rolexs all collectively agree that you're pretty much buying someone else's probem/source of stress when you buy that watch

I mean oyster perpetuals, daytonas, milgauss, these are all but a few of the ugly tacky offerings they have on the market

not going to lie I couldn't or should I more likely say, I didn't want to afford the up keep/servicing of the rolex I picked up years ago.

$350 service, and significant value reduction if you replace the band with something that wasn't a massive, solid linked summer time killer.

plus it was a date just (picked it up for $1200) so wasn't a sub (sell for like 5X a datejust on market

many people agree,

sad thing is many former rolex owners are stating that the lowliest of seikos malyasian movement offerings rival mid-low end rolex models

I was thinking blue face. With a nice distressed walnut leather strap. I've been thinking about it for the longest, just need to pull the trigger.

>>8159868
They are water resistant, not water proof. Water resistant means it can takes splashes of water from washing your hands. Taking a shower with it, would require the watch to be at least 3m water proof like a diving watch, which this is not.

I mean, it clearly has open button holes. What were you thinking?

The other watch is what I've been going with. Hated the blue straps at first but they've grown on me. One of the loops that hold the strap against the other strap have fallen off over the years and the silver face plate is scratched as fuck, but I love the damn thing.

My only gripe with the Cannon is that it doesn't show the date in the face.

I saw how they looked when I opened the box and was a bit disappointed, but they lit right back up when I told them that the watch is great and I'll be glad to wear it.

>highest grade of steel in the world

That's not how steel works. It's not like Grade A or Grade B beef or something. Different steel grades have various attributes like hardness, malleability, chemical or heat resistance, etc.

http://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=1022

Here's your Rolex steel. Its only real claim to fame is that it has good acid resistance. So feel free to strap it on and stick your arm in a vat of acid. Your arm's gone, and for that matter so are the gaskets of your watch, after which the 904L steel will soon contain nothing because the acid will enter the case and eat the dial, hands, and movement. But the steel will be slightly more okay than the steel of other watches.

904L is not stronger, harder, shinier, etc than the 316L steel every other dive watch is made out of.

> will last me for my entire life

As long as you're willing to drop $500-$800 every five years for a service, yeah, sure. You could buy a lot of watches for that though in the long run.

Oh, wait, and there's the tiny problem that Rolex generally doesn't service watches after about 20 years. If you have grandpa's old 1960s submariner, Rolex won't touch it. You'll be asking around on the Internet for somebody who has NOS parts or the tools to make them if you want it fixed.

I like Rolex. They've made a lot of history and make a damn good watch. But you sound like a victim of marketing.
