I think we've gotta.
Everyone here knows the regulars. We're going to need to go deep. Real deep.
Side note: Saw a guy wearing a Stone Island jacket. I said, "Hey, nice jacket. Is that one of their shadow projects?" We chatted a bit, jacket wasn't, but he was clearly happy I knew the brand.
Those kinds of things make it worth the while to spend a little extra.

If you've never had something 'tailored' do it. It doesn't cost half as much as it sounds. I bought some Lululemon (pretty tech) Seawall II pants: http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/mens-pants-gym/Seawall-Track-Pant-II-DWR

It's surprising light weight, the high collar and schoeller material are really good at killing the wind - where I live it's typically really windy so I really like it for that. The cape part shields bags from rain, I have a leather messenger bag so I always through it under. At the end of the day though it is a luxury fashion item, undoubtedly there are much more functional jackets I could wear instead but I really like the way the cp2 looks.

Ah. I guess I'm bigger on the function more than the fashion. I can see it being functional for covering a bag.

Well the Schoeller soft shell is not actually water proof, it's not like a goretex pro shell - it literally is a 'shoftshell', think neoprene. It is very comfortable on the skin though. Yea again, I would consider it more of a fashion item then anything, but it works well in spring fall and winter because it can be thrown over a hoodie really easily, or you could throw it over a hoodless waterproof jacket.
Not trying to defend it as a all element garment, just a few use cases. I think that, which most unfortunately is often the case here, when people think about 'techwear' here they think of it in a pure utility and performance mindset - which I suppose is fair as much of it is marketed as sportswear and activewear - but it's important to bear in mind that Errolson does design fashionable items, and that a large part of the appeal of acrnm is the design. once you enter the > $500 dollar realm as well you are talking about luxury items, which of course doesn't necessitate a purely functional purpose. If I wanted to be completely waterproof and that was my only goal I'd go buy a rain poncho from 7-11 for 3 dollars and wear duckboots, but alas.

The techwear silhouette is the opposite of an hourglass, and there's a reason for that.

Clothing up top (hoods or headwear) is close fitting to allow visibility. True, there are some big hoods for weather protection, but you can push them back easy enough.
Middle tends to look bulky because of a bag, or bags, or gear you might be carrying. Maybe a simple backpack or maybe a messenger style bag.
Legs tend to look a little bulky because--again--gear. You've got stuff in your pockets or have cargo pockets for stuff to be put in them.
Things get slim again down below the knees for mobility. A lot of 'techwear' folks cycle or ride public transpo, so you're moving a lot. You don't want your pants caught in a subway door or on your bike chain. Footwear is close too for movement reasons still.

So an easy way to cop the techwear look is to get some ankle high boots (you can cop some combat boots cheap) and tuck cargos into them. Wear a jacket, boom, done.

Being OCD about fabric texture, garment construction and "quality" is supposedly desirable and not recognized as the autism that it actually is? They are fucking clothes. The shittiest Walmart crap satisfies the basic functionality of clothing. Being fashionable is about reflecting one's lifestyle and personality, which includes the social context that person exists in as well the budget they have. If someone not only spends all his disposable income on his clothing, but actually has to "save up" for certain pieces that he is obsessing about, then he is the very opposite of fashionable. He is a neurotic, insecure consumerist. Interesting people would never devote such a significant amount of time or resources to what they were wearing. What they are wearing is merely a reflection of HOW they live. Can't you see it?

>Being fashionable is about reflecting one's lifestyle and personality, which includes the social context that person exists in as well the budget they have.

you act as if this is an inherent, absolute point. why is this the case? i totally reject it.

in my opinion, fashion and how one dresses themselves is about achieving a look that the individual likes. no more and no less.

if people only dressed according to their lifestyle and income, about 70% of the population would dress in the same shit. clothing would never develop. you don't account for personal taste or style at all.

by your definition, a lower income man who works in a printing office, who wears budget office clothing is the "definition of fashionable" because he spends according to his means and dresses according to his lifestyle.

Macys, pretty much any store that stocks Levis. They're sort of rare though.

run in, check quickly, run out.

cost goes from 60 on low end (ie on sale) to 80 on high end (ie MSRP)

quality is really good in person, I'm just worried about color

If you just size down they will fit snug in the thigh if you're anything like me. they're a straight leg so I'm having mine tailored below the knee.
Sans tailoring the clasps can be used to tighten them ankle opening. I like a tailored fit so I got them tailored.

And so people will stop asking me on grailed - yes I did sell them, that's why the listing is no longer there.

I think that's a bad idea. One of the major things I really dislike about /fa/ is that so many of the posters just want a paint by numbers guide of how to dress in some sort of style. When people start to dress by some guide is the moment when fashion stops existing as any meaningful artistic expression - styles don't develop and everything becomes stagnant and uniform.

This is especially problematic with what people refer to as a 'tech' style here lately. Largely the term techwear just means technical or performance clothing, which is totally agnostic to a styling. Seeing as how this is a fashion board and not /n/ though it does make sense that people would be asking about and discussing styles that make heavy use of techwear. When people talk about techwear style here what I believe they're really referring to is often either one of two styles. The first being a fall/winter version of athletic wear that's gone through the filter of tumblr... not to suggest that that's necessarily a bad thing, just that it's a highly stylized version. The second is what often get's called 'techninja'... when people try to discuss that here it's often difficult because it's so undeveloped as a 'style' that you can hardly call it that, it largely exists in some prototypical form that's heavily inspired by the small nu-cyber punk renaissance that tumblr and deviant art seems to be experiencing. Really the only fits that I've seen that can be considered true techninja are acrnm stock photos and maybe some sisp stuff.

Note on the jacket.
The shell (and it IS in every sense of the word a shell) is 100% polyester. If it's cold out you're going to need something else underneath and it doesn't breathe at all. That's why there are little holes under the armpits.
The reflective nature is badass, no doubt, but I'm a little disappointed in the rest of it, it's pretty basic.

Wish I knew others.
I try to buy most of my stuff at REI and they have a year long (used to be lifetime) return policy, which is pretty solid.
Most larger companies will back their stuff, if you call and say, "I was wearing your pants and a seem blew out on me" they're going to replace them. MOST people don't do that.
Think about how often you've replaced stuff. It's probably not due to wear-and-tear and these places know that. You're probably selling your stuff, or giving it away, or trading it in at a second-hand shop.
The only item I can think of that I'll have worn out, literally worn so much it is falling apart, is a pair of shoes I own. (Pic.)
I bought then in December of 2012 so we're at about 1.5 years and I wear them every single day. Eight hours at work and everything else. For the ~$100 I spent I think that's pretty decent, honestly. So am I going to call Merrell up and say, "Hi, I wore these shoes to the point they're falling off my feet"? No. But if they did that 6mo in? Yeah. Then again I got them at REI, so... that fixes that.

I was born in Colorado, grew up in AZ and CA. Traveled the country (Pacific ocean to Atlantic) by foot and hitchhiking in 2007. Lived in Michigan for a few years and then heard Seattle was "like a clean Portland without all the dirty hippies." Which is pretty damn accurate.
