one thing to avoid for sure: wear white leather sneakers with raw jeans. All that unremovable indigo bleed will ruin the shoe.

Depends how wide your feet are. I have kind of wide feet and if I size down they're too tight on me since they're quite a narrow shoe. I'm normally an UK 8 and I wear a 42 in the mids and they fit ever so slightly loose but nicer than 41s.

I also tried lows on in store and it was the same, the 41s were annoyingly tight and the 42s were slightly loose but could be solved by just lacing them tighter.

Just copped CPs, white lows and this was my first day wearing them. Wore them with some no show socks, they are slightly tight on the toes and only a little discomfort on the heel. I am hoping they will stretch and mold to my foot just a little. I got a size 41, I wear a size 8 in cdb, (but 8.5 would be comfier because slightly wide feet). A 42 would have had more room but since I plan to wear them sockless, a 41 is ok and isn't too long.

My girl said they actually look really good in person, she usually doesn't compliment me either. They aren't too common irl, only seen sales associates with them. Plus I am ok that people can recognize them because they are only the people who are into the same thing.

I think this assessment is pretty off with the whole Stan Smith vs Achilles thing. Sure they both fill fundamentally the same role but the Achilles has a much sleeker look that the Stan Smith simply lacks.

Also I disagree with his complaint that CPs now stand out. Sure, some people will recognise them but from a purely aesthetic point of view they're still very low key and minimal.

The lows always feel tight, and I've got the width problem as well, with the sole warping etc. The difference between a 12 and a 13 is quite dramatic. It's fine, I have a pair. They still look good. There's bound to be creasing because derbies don't have the segmented toebox thing so when your foot bends the frame is forced to bend with it.

if a shoe is too narrow for me I just size up and give myself some toe space. Esp for shoes like that I don't plan on running a fuckin marathon in. Besides that wearing slightly larger shoes looks nicer. Models always size up 1 or two for shoots and runways.

Saw a dude on campus wearing white Achilles Lows today. Now I've been on the CP hype train ever since I heard about them, and have been saving up for a pair of my own, but after seeing them in person I'm not so sure. I mean they look better than my all-white Stan Smiths, yeah, but not $300 better. Convince me I'm wrong.

I bought a pair of derbies and there's around two inches of room from my big toe to the tip of the toe box, but I'm worried the shoe will be too narrow if I size down.

Question for you dudes. Do most of you just buy one pair of Commons (usually achilles) and then leave it at that?
I just grabbed my second pair after having achilles lows since last August, and I'm feeling like I might just stick to CPs for my shoes, they make most anything I'd want to wear.

I know this is only tangentially related, but can anyone recommend some thin and cheapish ankle socks that I can buy a lot of in one package?

define cheap. Even shit tier malls carry ankle socks, but those won't stay on your heel very well. Cheapest no show socks with rubber inlays at the heel I've bought are Falkes on sale - 5 Eur a pair. Also tried some jcrew ones for 15 Eur a pair, not much better imo.

My biggest issue with no show socks are that they don't cover enough of my arch, so part of the shoe tongue still touches my skin, which can get nasty when it's a leather shoe during summer.

Not that guy, but my left Common projects creases perfectly on my left shoe (as shown by red) but my right shoe is a rather ugly crease in two spots closer to all over the place 9as shown by black). I always figured it was because on foot was slightly larger/smaller to the other, but not really sure. Mine are black, so it's not that noticeable I guess.

Sizing advice you've received is on point, but you sure as hell won't want to go sockless or wear thin socks your first few times wearing them. They will KILL the back of your ankles for the first week plus of wearing them. I'm still trying to break in my achilles. I have thin babby skin though so perhaps you'll fare better.
