here on /fa/ I see recommended always the same brands for denims(like acne or dior), but what about the other expenisve/designer brands, like armani, d&g, gucci etc.? are their denims just overpriced because of the brand? if so, what are the brands that are actually worth the price?

>> No.7931421

I think people like acne and stuff like that for their cut, because when it comes to quality and durability, they don't really win if compared against jeans brands that specialise in durability like Levis, Wrangler and Lee. Naked and Famous are a good in-between brand for jeans that are durable with good fits.

The denim is not great on Levis and Wrangler any more (They changed where they got their denim from), but the Levis Vintage range uses exactly the same techniques and denim like when Levi Strauss made the first pair of denim work pants. I personally would go for Levis Vintage range and go for a shrink to fit jean so it shrinks to your leg shape BUT, if you're in that price range, there's nothing wrong with getting some Acne jeans if you're not going to be using and abusing them a lot. Acne jeans aren't made to be abused, they're bothered about making them last a long time with a nice cut under normal use.

TLDR - Go for Levis Vintage if you're looking for a hard wearing pair OR go for Acne if you're not going to be abusing your jeans much! This is just my opinion, make sure to read reviews!

Now people know better and see those steps as unnecessary and potentially ruining for your denim.

They're pretty much old wives tales that don't go away because all of these people gave bad advice early on so people just starting to get into them keep on repeating the same unnecessary shit.

No, you'll want to size down, but it depends on the fit, and even the same fits sometimes have different measurements for different fabrics. Find one you like and check it out BlueOwl. Petit Standard is a low rise, skinny thigh, taper below the knee.

New Standard has a higher rise, more room in the thigh, less taper below the knee.

A newer fit is in between those, called the Petit New Standard.
Higher rise than PS, a little more room in the thighs, tapers below the knee.

So basically:

Petit Standard = super skinny
Petit New Standard = skinny/slim taper
New Standard = slim(ish) taper.

Go with the PBJ for sure.

Japanese denim is pretty tough and has great texture. Some people might argue that they like LVC better, but I think most would prefer japanese denim over it.

I have a pair of Samurais and haven't ever had an issue with them holding up. Not a single thread coming off, no crotch blow outs, no holes in the pockets, nothing.

so all the images of wholes and messed up hems comes from purposeful damage?
I have some indigo n&fs that have held up for three hours without a scratch on them so I guess I shouldn't have a problem

but every LVC model just doesn't do it for me, I don't know why I gravitate towards japanese brands but I could pick them out like a lineup

I think it's the dye. texture too, but mostly the dye.
pic related. I don't know how they do it, but everything looks so damn bland to me.

First get them repaired. If you want them repaired well, send them to Railcar Fine Goods and they'll fix em right up for you. Now, you should probably wash them for the first time. The lack of washing actually makes blowouts happen a lot faster.

Black jeans are hard as fuck to fade. But washing might actually knock some dye off and you might see something. Might as well try it.

this is what I meant. Don't wash them in the machine. and don't EVER put them in the dryer.

Wash them in the bathtub, and if you want them actually clean, you can add a small amount of Woolite Dark, let is soak in lukewarm or cool water for a while. Then rinse off the detergent if you added any and hang dry.

I have a question

the size chart on blueingreen goes as follows between Raw and One Wash pairs

I just purchased some raws, but I do want to soak them. will soaking them shrink them to the one wash size? I bought them in accordance with how they will fit *after they shrink, not how they should fit now.
so.. do I just soak them to replicate the one wash sizing or is there more I need to do?

does BiG have a special one wash program or do the individual brands wash them on BiGs request?
I just want to bring the hem down from 8.5 to 8 or less before I taper them.

As long as it says "unsanforized" then yes you should soak the raws when you get them. They may not shrink to the exact size it says it will, but provided you use really hot water, it should be close. If you soak it and its still too big, soak again and agitate it a little.

Not sure if BiG washes it or not though.

Aside from being thin which is there for movement due to them being skinny...Not to mention a budget of $100
