You could get a mortgage and pay a fraction of what a landlord would charge you in rent for a similarly sized house due to markup.

ie I'm renting a unit for $260 a week and the mortgage is $200, scale that up to three bedroomed houses.

Also with a mortgage you have equity you can draw upon to pay for that 15k speedboat, it's basically a long term saving account.

You don't even have to plan to live long enough to pay it off m8.
