I had some cheapo Levi's 501 STF tapered. They turned out pretty well. I did a cold water bath with the pants turned inside out first to get rid of shrink. If you don't agitate them, you'll keep most of the ink. It'd be bad to taper them before you get the shrink out because the shrinking is unpredictable

Recently copped come naked and famous, weird guy, brown raw selvedge chinos.
It fits will around the thighs but not the calves (/fit/ also). Is it possible to just shrink the bottom through the dryer or do I have to get it tapered? My friend said he could taper them but he said the selvedge strip would get bigger.

That's the problem I had with a past pair of selvedge. My real waist size is a 32, but I have to size up to a 33 because I have larger quads (thanks Rippetoe).
