back when goofninja was first mentioned on /fa/ in late 2008, brands that were more popularly associated w/ it were julius (this in particular), ann d, number number (n)ine, obscur, chronicles of never, dbss, yohji, and even undercover and cdg. since old /fa/ didnt know shit about designers, anything drapey n monochrome black was considered goofninja, which is a stupid term anyway.

the aesthetic kinda went dormant for a few years until 2012 when the dadcore spammer killed off #mesnwear and twerk and the goobcrew heralded an age of goof to /fa/, with tricky dick at the forefront.

it was a combo of that and that it just so happened to coincidentally coincide with the internet at large's fixation with the undisputed fashion champion of the world that brought rick to memetic hero worship.

old timers will remember pic related, which was often used to start/included in goof generals. p much represented how much /fa/ knew about avant garde designers back then, much less any designers at all outside hedi and tom ford

rick isn't my favorite designer, but i always find it funny when people have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe people are attracted to Rick for his proportioning and giving guys skirts, but this isn't why most people like his lines-- these are things that have been implemented by designers way ahead of his time and he knows that. Rick's subtle but intense use of colors (seriously, look at the purples he used in his last show), thematic cohesion, and eccentric silhouettes is what makes him a very interesting designer. you're complaining about people being called out for being 'plebs' when they complain about Rick's following, but that's generally because they are just that, plebs. So are you. Not to say i haven't seen detailed reasons as to why people don't like him and I can understand, but your reasoning is boring and uneducated. if you don't like him you don't like him, but don't pretend to know what you're talking about.

Personally, I find Raf to be the far superior designer. Why? Because unlike Rick, Raf is willing to take chances with is clothes, his collections are always distinguishable from one another, he's always making varying the themes and concepts from one collection to the next. While with Rick it's basically just him continuing where he left off. I like Rick, but Raf will go down in history as one of the pillars of the fashion world. Rick is just flavor of the month.

It's not really that we like Rick's clothing, it's more so that we like Rick, or at least how he's presented in the media. Some of his clothes look nice, and the goofninja crowd likes it, but he's just an incredibly adorable guy, like Hideki Kamiya or Eli Manning.
